I am not a language specialist.

For me, persistence is when the language takes care of saving the 
data for you. Hypercard and Frontier on Macintosh, ToolBook on 
Windows were the best exemple of this.

Python does not do this as most programming languages. But it gives 
you the tools to implement it if you wish.
