David has been carrying on a courageous fight against his early onset Parkinson's for years. David stays in shape by rucking (walking with a weighted backpack). David has combined his fight against Parkinson's with his love for rucking into a fundraiser for The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. If you feel so moved to help a fellow TriPythoneer, here is the page where you can donate to David's fundraiser and read more about David's story: https://fundraise.michaeljfox.org/tf-2022/teamrambler Cheers, Chris -------------- next part -------------- Many of you know long-time TriPythoneers David Ray and his wife Leslie Heal Ray, who herself is a PyLadies RDU organizer. I and the students are grateful to those responded, but I?m not after cash today! I eventually found an economical shipper that has shipped 40 laptops for about $10 each. I?ve accumulated cash to ship another 40 computers? so now it?s *computers* I need. Can you help me identify corporate IT folks who may be able to arrange a donation of retired laptops? We have established a (coffeeless) ?Internet Caf?? in a small village (Chialli, Alta Verapaz) that allows several dozen students to do school work on computers without walking several miles to a larger town (Tactic). We would like to expand that to other villages and have many other ideas. I am currently working under the auspices of the Guatemalan Student Support Group, a registered charity GSSG-USA.org . My goal is to ship a total of 100 computers by the end of 2022, and then spin off a new nonprofit. Although it might be a heavy lift, my longer term goal is to establish a mini-Kramden in Guatemala where kids can learn to refurbish computers. It would be great to talk to anyone who can give advice on any aspect of setting that up. Thank you for any help you can give. Rex PS: At the moment, I?m not soliciting computer donations from individuals because it?s just me doing the legwork on this end. The Kramden Institute does great work, and they will happily take your personal computers. -- Rex A.
