I was somehow reminded the other day that we take our do-acracy formula
and calling shotgun on speaker slots from the spirit of the ancient and
venerable Bay Area Debian "Shotgun Rules for Meetings." To get a sense
of that spirit, here's a link to the document. It still reads today like
the sage piece of wisdom it was. It was made for the kind of meeting
that takes place in restaurants (i.e., places without laptop
projectors). And it doesn't adhere to the philosophy of fixed meeting
places and times that makes participating more predictable. But the
spirit of it (particularly the use of declarative voice and the
Python-esque philosophy of not asking for permission) certainly still
rings true as the most hassle-free way to organize
