It's that time of year again! The PyCon website received a beautiful refresh and we're ready to accept proposals for the 2014 conference taking place April 9-17 in Montreal. Check out the new site at http://us.pycon.org/2014 and create your account today! Registration will open in September, so mark your calendars and get ready to head into Canada for another great PyCon. We've received record numbers of proposals over each of the last several years, and we expect this year to be no different. For 2012 we received over 500 proposals for talks, tutorials, and posters, and for 2013 we received over 600. This community's excellent submissions have made for schedules where there is just too much good stuff to take in without cloning yourself, which is a problem we're proud to have. Thankfully you can catch up with the talks you missed at http://pyvideo.org/. If you're interested in submitting a proposal, take a look at our Call for Proposals at http://us.pycon.org/2014/speaking/cfp/ and poke around the site for advice and resources to help you create a great proposal. New for this year are the addition of Lightning Talk proposals, from which we'll be pre-selecting some of the slots that make up the Lightning Talk sessions. If your company is interested in sponsorship, we need you. Sponsors are what make PyCon a possibility, and sponsorship offers some great values to the generous organizations who support the conference. Check out https://us.pycon.org/2014/sponsors/whysponsor/ to find out what you get out of sponsorship, with a prospectus at https://us.pycon.org/2014/sponsors/prospectus/. Contact Jesse Noller at jnoller at python.org with any sponsorship inquiries. But he has an amazing band called The Wusses: http://thewusses.com/ The Wusses are a Canadian super-group from the 70's. They play under different names such as The Little River Band, Three Dog Night, Bread, America, Pablo Cruise, Chris Cross, Ambrosia, Climax Blues Band, The Looking Glass, England Dan and John Ford Coley, 10cc, Player, Sanford Townsend, Firefall, Boz Scaggs, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Blues Image, Loggins and Messina, etc.. In other words, they invented that high brow form of art known as Yacht Rock. The Wusses are playing on top of the downtown Chapel Hill municipal parking deck on Rosemary Street on the same night as the TriPython meeting: http://www.downtownchapelhill.com/downtown-blog/2013/5/17/locally-grown-summer-2013-schedule Chris thinks The Wusses will go on around 9:30pm, as there is an opening band at 8pm known as The Whom (sometimes they've been known to play under the name The Who). I won't be at the meeting (PyOhio). I'm very grateful to SplatSpace, Mark, Justis, and JC for all the good times and wifi. However, to help Mark out, I have accepted on our behalf the location of a new home for our tri-monthly Durham meetings, effective immediately. Robert Petrusz, a longtime member of TriPython and veteran of both our Plone and Python boot camps, has generously offered the use of his beautifully appointed Bull City Coworking space on Duke Street near Brightleaf and next to Parker and Otis: http://bullcitycoworking.com Some of you are well familiar with the space as you already work there. Other tech groups such as Refresh the Triangle, Girl Develop It, Triangle Drupal, and Triangle WordPress are meeting there as well. Robert says, "I offer it up for free for meetups, which is what coworking spaces should do." Pretty awesome, no? Robert is also helping to publicize these meetings through the BCCW calendar and Twitter. BCCW has dedicated parking one block away at the corner of Burch and Gregson: http://bullcitycoworking.com/location/ BCCW is also located close to several potential pre-meeting and after-meeting spots as well. I'm excited. Our first meeting at BCCW will be Thursday September 26 at 7pm. It will be part 3 of our Open Data series. Representatives of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will talk to use about how to access and use their open data depot. Part 1 is this month at Caktus where Colin Copeland will talk to us about Django Open Data Catalog and Open Data Durham.
