Health Sciences Library seeks a Web Computing Specialist to,
under the direction of the Head, Information Systems, develop,
install and maintain web applications. This position requires a
broad knowledge of Web/Internet software technologies, along with
an ability to communicate on technical subjects effectively with
non-technical faculty and staff.

Job Duties:

The Web Computing Specialist will work on programming, scripting,
and information architecture projects to maintain and add new
tools and functionality to existing web resources such as
HealthLinks (http://healthlinks.washington.edu/) and
PrimeAnswers (http://www.primeanswers.org/).

A major focus of the position will be working with the EthnoMed
website (http://www.ethnomed.org) team on a couple of grant
projects to design and move this site into a Plone content
management environment. In addition the incumbent will work with
staff content developers to update the existing intranet to use
database structures (Relational or Object-Relational) instead of
generating static output.

Requirements:

Minimum requirements include Bachelors degree in computer
science, or related field, and one to two years related
experience OR equivalent education/experience.  Programming
skills in: Java/JSP, Perl/CGI, PHP, Python, ColdFusion,
JavaScript.  Experience developing software on: Apache Tomcat,
Apache, IIS, Zope, Plone.  Experience writing software to
interact with RDBMS: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server.
In-depth HTML and CSS knowledge.  Experience with XML and XSLT.
Experience working with web services (SOAP) and XML over
HTTP (REST).  Must be self-motivated with a desire to learn and
contribute.  Excellent written and oral communication and
analysis skills.  Work in a collaborative environment and display
ownership of tasks.  Strong knowledge of cross-browser,
cross-platform issues, as well as designing for web
standards (e.g., Section 508, WAI, XHTML, WCAG, etc.).  Ability
to maintain code using a Linux-based versioning system such as
CVS.  Comfort developing in both a Linux and Windows environment.

Desired:

Experience working with the NCBI E-Utilities
(http://eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query/static/eutils_help.html).
Experience working with Dublin Core metadata.
