I'm mystified why it's never been encountered before. You appear to be using Windows Live Mail, which might or might not work with SpamBayes. Unfortunately, I can't make a new release for Windows. How are you with Notepad? Do you think you can find the file sb_server.py and edit it? The fix is a one-line change. Just search for "def _recreateState", then right after that line, add this line: global state (indented with four spaces, just as I have it above). So, that bit of code will change from def _recreateState(): # Close the existing listeners and create new ones. This won't # affect any running proxies - once a listener has created a proxy, to def _recreateState(): global state # Close the existing listeners and create new ones. This won't # affect any running proxies - once a listener has created a proxy, Of course, this might not be the only bug. Given that we've apparently not seen it before and it appears you're using a rare-for-SpamBayes mail program, I'd rate the odds of encountering more problems as at least "moderate". -- Skip Montanaro - skip at pobox.com - http://www.smontanaro.net/ From stuart at CEDCS.com Sun Feb 13 13:32:04 2011 From: stuart at CEDCS.com (Stuart Ord) Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2011 12:32:04 -0000 Subject: [Spambayes] SpamByes won't switch on after an Outlook problem Message-ID: <7D1444882A8343EB8D3CA84D289B2109@StuartsA10> Hi, I've used Spambayes for a couple of years. Occasionally I got an error message from Outlook (Outlook 2003 (11.8169.8172) SP3, under Windows XP) but it never caused a problem with SpamBayes. Recently I had a computer shutdown that failed to close Outlook properly and it did its udul checking of the Outlook file before it would start, but it said that it thought SpamBayes was at fauls and asked to disable it. I agreed thinking I'd just switch it back on again. Alas I can't do so. There's no menu appearing when I click the drop-down box on the SpamBayes button in its toolbar, nothing appears in "Junk suspects" and clicking on "Spam" no longer causes the message to be deleted. I've uninstalled SpamBayes, downloaded the current version 1.1a6 and installed this, but it failed to go through the startup configuration and Outlook appears unchanged with the SpamBayes toolbar there but nothing is working. I've run Outlook's "Detect and repair" to no effect. Please can you suggest how to fix this? Thanks Stuart Ord -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... ThunderBayes++ is an independent work from SpamBayes. You can find the original ThunderBayes website at http://pieces.openpolitics.com/category/thunderbayes/, however it seems that the developer has stopped supporting it 3 years ago. ThunderBayes++ is an unofficial continuation of ThunderBayes by another author, also independent from SpamBayes. I don't know what the current state of ThunderBayes++ is. Last news about it is almost a year old, and I can't find it any more on Mozilla's add-on website. You could also try SpamBayes, the original program that ThunderBayes and ThunderBayes++ were based on. Take a look at http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/index.html Be prepared to get your hands wet... although you are now subscribed to the SpamBayes mailing list so just ask your questions, there will probably be somebody who can help you. I cannot help you, because I don't use Windows, I use Linux. I don't know anything about Windows. I also don't use SpamBayes as a plugin for a mailclient, but as a filter in my procmail rules.
