2.2 is minimal, in part because the code uses generators (new in 2.2), and
in part because it relies on many improvements to Python's libraries since
1.5.2 came out.  You could work around all that, of course, given an unknown
(but large) investment of effort.  Note that 1.5.2 hasn't been supported for
years, and even 2.1 stopped attracting support over a year ago (when 2.3
development started).  That web server is going to self-destruct eventually
