Message-ID: <001f01c75c02$1b4aded0$fe7aa8c0@ewr> Hello SpamBayes development team, your approach seems very interesting. The problem I have with the program is that I have to know where the results of the training are stored . I use to have an image of the main partition C:, so in cases of any abnormal situation I do restore the main partition. Therefore I have transfered the mail archives from Outlook Expres from the C: to the D: partition. For SpamBayes I have to do the same thing or the traning information will get lost. If you need help in the adaption to German or to Spanish, I could help. So I want shortly introduce myself. My development experience reaches back more than 20 years, for more than 15 years I'm self-employed professional developer, so called freelancer. For 3 years now I'm fulltime working as software integration engineer, currently as Open System Driver Integrator for Cell(tm) based server blades at IBM development labs in Boeblingen, Germany. Looking at 34 open patches at Spambayes Sourceforge project page eventually there is a need for integration skills. I'm consequently using Windows on my desktop and Debian stable on my servers. After upgrading my hardware and system software last month, I had to deal with SpamBayes again after it ran on my old system for years without problems. Because I don't like mixed-language GUIs I wanted to translate the main GUI items into German. I discovered - in README-DEVEL.txt there are missing some important information. - Localization does not work at all (at least if running from source) - After fixing these two points there are other localization related problems. I've provided three patches on Sourceforge to fix these problems. On my system SpamBayes seems to run stable now under Vista x64 with Outlook 2007 with Spambayes and a partly translated German interface. I would be happy if someone could review the fixes and integrate them. Of course I think I could do it myself if I had the appropriate rights. (My sf.net user name is 'igs'.) All done! I admit to not testing them, but they all *look* reasonable, and any problems will be picked up in short order. > Of > course I think I could do it myself if I had the appropriate > rights. (My sf.net user name is 'igs'.) Once your contributions are somewhat regular and the pain of integration becomes noticeable, we will be more than happy to set you up as a developer on the project! A book is no longer a tangible thing; a book is what a book does. It is an information architecture. We examine the various manifestations of electronic book readers and imminent technologies, such electronic ink, including a case study on the use of ebook reading devices by a lending library, and speculate about other uses of such devices We see the convergence of print and etext - manifestations of the same thing - electronically stored text, with the difference demonstrated only in their final rendering. We look at changes in print technologies and the shift in mindset necessary to accommodate emergent forms of digital text - as information services within a product-service system, the changing shape of digital design and changes in printing technologies from letterpress to the rise of digital printing... For the Outlook plug-in, there's already the facility for this (a bayescustomize.ini is installed by default with options that suited Tim & Mark at the time it was created). Certainly those users need this the most - they are likely to be least able to enable the option themselves, and there's no facility within the plug-in interface for enabling options like this. For other Windows users (sb_server, sb_imapfilter), there is a way to enable options through the interface - at the moment, the OCR option will be there in the experimental options page (automatically includes all experimental options), and if this becomes non- experimental then it can easily be added to the main options page. Personally: Make non-experimental: +1 Make default everywhere: -0 Off by default, turn on in Outlook bayescustomize.ini: +1 Alternatively, the warning could be wrapped in a 'if options ["globals", "verbose"]' block. =Tony.Meyer From spambayes-dev at tangomu.com Sun Mar 25 06:17:40 2007 From: spambayes-dev at tangomu.com (Tony Meyer) Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2007 16:17:40 +1200 Subject: [spambayes-dev] Rebuild/reinstall website? That means only he can update those - it's not really a big issue, because it's just a page about frequently reported plug-in bugs. Mark - if you want to fix this, then you need to ssh in to shell1.sourceforge.net and do: chmod -R g+w /home/groups/s/sp/spambayes/htdocs/apps [Mark] > I did find the need for the rst2html change, Me three, so I checked it in. > I failed to build for all kinds of reasons I didn't dig in to and > can't > recall the exact errors I had. The current checkout builds and installs for me with XP+Cygwin (need to have docutils installed for the Cygwin python, and the spambayes package on the PYTHONPATH). =Tony.Meyer From mhammond at skippinet.com.au Sun Mar 25 12:45:21 2007 From: mhammond at skippinet.com.au (Mark Hammond) Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2007 20:45:21 +1000 Subject: [spambayes-dev] Rebuild/reinstall website? Oops - I've no idea how that could have happened though (unless 'cvs add' wasn't the right thing to do :) > That means only he can update those - > it's not really a big issue, because it's just a page about > frequently reported plug-in bugs. > > Mark - if you want to fix this, then you need to ssh in to > shell1.sourceforge.net and do: > > chmod -R g+w /home/groups/s/sp/spambayes/htdocs/apps Done! > The current checkout builds and installs for me with XP+Cygwin (need > to have docutils installed for the Cygwin python, and the spambayes > package on the PYTHONPATH). OK, I'm up for it :) I've made a number of changes: I promoted x-crack-images, x-image-size and x-ocr-engine to non experimental options. The defaults are the same as before (but the outlook binary will enable it). NOTE: This means that you MUST CHANGE YOUR CONFIGURATION FILE if you previously had these options enabled. I made a significant change involving py2exe, and is designed to allow anyone to build spambayes binary builds, not just someone with Office 2k on their box. I've enhanced py2exe and checked in 3 files generated by makepy, in the windows/py2exe/gen_py directory. Due to the py2exe enhancements, you need to install a CVS version of py2exe to make this work - but given I was the only one capable of building binaries in the past, we haven't lost anything :) With that new py2exe, it should be possible to build the binary without any Office version installed at all. I included gocr.exe, and made a few other changes I found necessary while testing the binary. All my changes are checked in. I've put a test binary at http://starship.python.net/crew/skippy/downloads/spambayes-1.1a3-mh1.exe - I'm afraid I haven't even gotten to testing the installer side of that - but I did test the generated binaries and it all seems to work. I'm out of spambayes time for this week, but I'd welcome any feedback on this. Any spambayes-dev folk using the Windows binaries are invited to give it a go - but please don't suggest it for use by anyone else. Took lots of my image-spams on the first run-through. After some training it really seemed to perform really well, almost all my image-spams are gone! (BTW: the installer seems to work fine as well) :-) thx!
