I have a problem where the SpamBayes "Delete as Spam" button will _sometimes_ not move a message from the Inbox or Suspect SPAM box. I'm using Outlook 2000, SpamBayes 1.0.4 and Windows 2000. Outlook is reading mail from a POP3 server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tony Meyer (anadelonbrin) Date: 2005-07-11 02:23 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=552329 Have you checked your logs to see if it is a dead database, as was the problem for this person? I first reset the SB toolbar (as described in the Troubleshooting Guide); that didn't work, so I removed the outcmd.dat file as recommended. Tried doing this a) and then restartign Outlook and then when this failed I re-deleted the .dat file and restarted the PC. Toolbars still don't work! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: jwhited (jimmywhited) Date: 2004-11-07 21:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1104558 This did in fact fix my problem as well. I can't find my old log files or else I'd post them. I have been running SpamBayes after doing this "fix" for 2 days now and it appears to be working fine. If the problem resurfaces, I'll post a new tracker and reference this defect ID as well. In any event, here are the steps I took to fix/work-around the problem -- 1. Remove the toolbars from Outlook, then closed outlook. 2. I did a complete uninstall using the SpamBayes uninstall program (not Windows uninstall). 3. Manually deleted the C:\Program Files\SpamBayes folder and left over files. 4. Manually deleted the outcmd.dat file in the profile directories. 5. Manually deleted the SpamBayes folder in the profile directories. 6. Reinstalled SpamBayes 7. Trained using existing Ham and Spam that SpamBayes had filtered out before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tony Meyer (anadelonbrin) Date: 2004-11-07 18:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=552329 I'll look into the issue of having to delete the files manually, thanks. Closing this, as I'm fairly sure that this will also solve 'jimmywhited''s problem, too, and this tracker is getting cluttered with several different problems. If anyone here is still having problems, please open a new tracker with all the revelant info and a copy of your most recent log. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Joe (joewagner501) Date: 2004-11-05 08:39 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1152649 I retrained from scratch but that didn't work either. Then I decided to take your information about it being a database issue one step further and went to the folder with the database files and deleted them all. Then I restarted Outlook, set up SpamBayes from scratch and the buttons are working again. You were absolutely correct about the database being the issue but it seems the files need to be deleted before retraining. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tony Meyer (anadelonbrin) Date: 2004-11-04 17:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=552329 joewagner501: have you tried retraining from scratch? Your problem (and jimmywhited) sounds most like a database problem (since filtering is still working). At first the buttons worked fine but the last two days they are not working. The program is still filtering email but I can't identify items in the junk suspects folder as being junk or not using the buttons. I have taken all the steps to remove the buttons and reinstal them but nothing has worked. I am using XP Pro SP2 and the latest version of SpamBayes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: jwhited (jimmywhited) Date: 2004-08-15 17:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1104558 I to am having this problem. This seems to be related to, but not an exact duplicate of bug ID 964537. Email filtering seems to be working fine; however, if I click or nothing happnes. I originally had 1.0rc1 so I upgraded to 1.0rc2 hoping this would fix the problem. It didn't. Next I tried deleting the toolbar, per troubleshooting instructions -- right-click on toolbars, Customize, highlight spam-bayes, delete, close outlook, reopen outlook so toolbars would be recreated. This didn't help. Next I tried renaming outcmd.dat so outlook would reset all the toolbars and also tried deleting the toolbar after that, which did not work. The last thing I tried was retraining the DB with the rebuild entire DB option checked. I saw the message writing database, but it never changed after several minutes. I hit the close button and closed the SpamBayes Manager, but the toolbars still did not work. I have the logs prior to retraining the DB and after if you want me to send them (I do not see a place where I can attach them in this followup addition). I can also send the DB file if need be. I retrained the db. however I don't know if it was successful as the Dialog box said "Saving: Writing database" but it never changed the msg. I don't know if this is typical behavior or not. After doing this there appears to be no change in the functioning of the program, meaning that it is still filtering spam although my guess is that it is somehow not doing it as effectively as it should becuase the number of spam msgs that are appearing in my inbox is significant (approx 20) as opposed to 3 or 4 when it was working flawlessly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mark Hammond (mhammond) Date: 2003-10-31 00:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14198 mhammond at users.sourceforge.net should be fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: William Hughes (w_hughes) Date: 2003-10-30 23:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=892918 I just learned that the max file size is 256K and this file is almost 1 meg zipped. The only solution I know of at the moment is to go to the "Training" tab, and do a complete re-train. If you could possibly attach a copy of your "default_bayes_database.db" before you do this, I would appreciate it - either mail it directly to me, or attach it here. However, that doesn't explain why you can't use the toolbars. The only reference to the toolbars is "Creating new SpamBayes toolbar to host our buttons", which is what we expect after clobbering outcmd.dat. Under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers" (there are equivalent HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys), create a new string key, its name being the full path to the executable file you want to disable NX for, the value being "DisableNXShowUI" ...you'll notice that in the UI, only executable files can be added. This means that I had to select the "Outlook.exe" file to get Spambayes to work again. I tried adding the spambayes_addin.dll and the python23.dll paths to the registry as a workaround, but this didn't work... Also, if you are using Outlook 2003, you may need to re-enable the plug-in by deleting its resilliency key (the COM Add-in Manager won't remember the re-enable setting no matter how many times you try): http://groups.google.co.uk/groups? hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&selm=uZ%24FJzyFEHA.3984% 40TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl FYI, the same techniques work with Inboxer etc. I'm guessing, as tim_one said, it's to do with the Python libraries. SpamBayes is written entirely in the Python programming language, and that never, ever tries to execute code from a data region (I'm very familiar with Python's implementation) My only guess is that Outlook itself, or MAPI, try to do this when interfacing with extensions. Or Mark Hammond is playing disgusting games (the only kind he knows, really ) in the win32all Python extensions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498103&aid=988095&group_id=61702 From noreply at sourceforge.net Thu Dec 14 01:00:27 2006 From: noreply at sourceforge.net (SourceForge.net) Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 16:00:27 -0800 Subject: [spambayes-bugs] [ spambayes-Bugs-1615363 ] Runtime errors crashing Outlook Message-ID: Bugs item #1615363, was opened at 2006-12-13 16:00 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498103&aid=1615363&group_id=61702 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. To test, I suggest you simply kill explorer.exe, then try and start the taskbar app. You should find it currently fails to start. You should find that with this patch it does start, and the icon is correctly created when explorer restarts. I've assigned to Tony in the hope he is in a position to test - if not, please assign to someone else :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Mark Hammond (mhammond) Date: 2006-12-22 14:50 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=14198 Originator: YES was checked in back in August ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tony Meyer (anadelonbrin) Date: 2005-12-31 16:23 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=552329 Thanks :) I was pretty stumped when I read the log (but hadn't had time to search around yet). I'll test this and check it in shortly. Just about everything is ready for a 1.1a2 release, so hopefully I'll get to that soon, too :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498105&aid=1394143&group_id=61702 From noreply at sourceforge.net Fri Dec 22 04:56:47 2006 From: noreply at sourceforge.net (SourceForge.net) Date: Thu, 21 Dec 2006 19:56:47 -0800 Subject: [spambayes-bugs] [ spambayes-Patches-1620612 ] outlook image cracking Message-ID: Patches item #1620612, was opened at 2006-12-22 14:48 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by mhammond You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498105&aid=1620612&group_id=61702 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. It would work when Outlook was first stated, but stop working after its initial scan of new messages. Clicking on the "Delete as Spam" button resulted in no action. I tried deleting SpamBayes from my system, but the buttons still show up in Outlook. Any idea why? Thanks in advance. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Category: Outlook Group: 1.1.x Status: Open Resolution: None >Priority: 6 Private: No Submitted By: Nick Jackson (jacksonj04) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Error initializing addin under Outlook 2007 / Vista Ultimate Initial Comment: Trying to run SpamBayes under Outlook 2007 on Vista Ultimate returns: There was an error initializing the SpamBayes addin Please re-start Outlook and try again. This has no affect on the error, nor does removing the configuration, database, or even uninstalling and reinstalling (Although the toolbar seems to get stuck as an option even efter uninstall). SpamBayes was working on this configuration previously, I have no idea what's changed but it did coincide with Patch Tuesday. The only things I can see which may have changed it (According to Windows Update) are some definition updates for Windows Mail and Windows Defender. I have not made any changes to my Office configuration, nor installed any applications which rely on the Outlook database since SpamBayes was working. Other apps seem to talk to the database OK, including iTunes, Nokia PC Sync and Mobile Device Center. I did have an issue where Outlook seemed to 'forget' its default profile settings, but this has since resolved itself. Latest log file attached. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Nick Jackson (jacksonj04) Date: 2006-12-26 22:28 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=620331 Originator: YES This issue still occurs following a complete format and re-install of Vista and Office. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498103&aid=1619690&group_id=61702 From noreply at sourceforge.net Wed Dec 27 16:08:06 2006 From: noreply at sourceforge.net (SourceForge.net) Date: Wed, 27 Dec 2006 07:08:06 -0800 Subject: [spambayes-bugs] [ spambayes-Bugs-1622941 ] Delete as SPAM not moving message Message-ID: Bugs item #1622941, was opened at 2006-12-27 10:08 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498103&aid=1622941&group_id=61702 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. I use Outlook 2000 on Windows 2000. After a few messages the Delete as SPAM button will change when clicked but the message will not move. I have deleted the SpamBayes toolbar and also deleted outcmd.dat as recommended. This fixes the problem for a day or so and then SpamBayes breaks again. I do not remember having this problem before I upgraded to 1.0.4. I have attached my most recent log file.
