Note that I provide a fixed atlas binary (wo threaded support though)
on launchpad:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/david-ar/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/david-ar/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

and update/upgrade the atlas package. You should not need to rebuild
numpy or scipy.
