On a side note, due to this I have read
http://scipy.org/License_Compatibility and as a developer who writes
BSD and GPL licenced code, I find the section 'John Hunter's License
Pitch' not very suiting. I see good use cases for both kind of
licences, and think all this side choosing does a project as scipy no
good.
To read things like " 1) Go with GPL and lose the mind-share of the
private sector 2) Forgo GPL code and retain the contribution of the
private sector." is just plain stupid in a day and age that private
companies spend huge amounts in releasing and writing (L)GPL code.
The same shoe just does not fit all feet, also many companies fear BSD
for their own products they want to open source.

I write BSD code for things like algorithms as the intended use is as
a library and my users are tech knowledgeable. Not because GPL is
wrong in some ways.
Perhaps somebody can write a better explanation on the wiki why scipy
uses BSD, without the attacks against GPL.
