Hmmm, apparently the tweaking is not simple. I have so far been unable to 
figure out exactly where g2c is set. The patch I sent earlier is fine but 
probably requires one more step to find libgfortran. I have a soft link on my 
test machine which points libg2c.so to libgfortran.so, but that is merely a 
workaround. Could one of the scipy_distutils gurus comment about this?
