Hi David, Here's a quick selection of a few I found particularly memorable, in chronological order: * Rae Knowler's Unsafe at Any Speed keynote * Russel Winder's follow-up to last year's "Fast Python? Don't bother" (also on youtube), On Big Computation and Python * David MacIver's Shaping the World keynote * Daniele Procida's When Free is Too Expensive * Cat Lamin's You don't have to be mad to work here... but it helps * Martin Chorley's What Python Can Teach us about Beer I didn't go to it myself, but I've heard that Live coding with Foxdot was very good. The three panels were also informative. The summary of all the talks are up on the schedule since four or five hours of video may be a little more than you were expecting to watch! http://2017.pyconuk.org/schedule/ Cheers, Nick From david.winterbottom at octoenergy.com Thu Nov 2 07:28:55 2017 From: david.winterbottom at octoenergy.com (David Winterbottom) Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2017 11:28:55 +0000 Subject: [python-uk] Wanted: experienced back-end engineer at Octopus Energy Message-ID: Hello everyone, We're looking for an experienced developer to work in our Soho office - full job details here: https://octopus.energy/careers/back-end-developer/ In short, this is a good opportunity as: We have high engineering standards. I'd be grateful if you could forward this email on to, or do intros to, any STEM companies you think might be interested. We already have ARM, the European Patent Office, Accenture and Capgemini committed, alongside The IET who'll be talking to participants about ongoing professional development. And we have 20 universities involved, including The Open University, Oxford, York, Edinburgh, Bath, Aberystwyth and St Andrews amongst others. You can see the full list here: https://findingada.com/careers/ Whilst the tech behind online careers fairs isn't the least bit new, there aren't many of them around, so in brief, the advantages for employers are: - Access to candidates from across the UK and across STEM - Online event means maximum flexibility for recruiters - More cost-effective than traditional recruitment fairs - Allows for quality conversations by video, audio or text with motivated candidates The fair will run from 9am to 5pm on Thursday, 1 February 2018, and will be hosted online at https://findingada.gointro.io/ There?s an overview for employers here: https://findingada.com/careers/employer-info/ I'm happy to provide a 50% discount to any friends of FOO who are interested. Even if your own company isn't hiring, please do have a think about who you know who might be. We just need a couple more businesses on board before the end of the year!
