I get caught by that all the time.  Whenever I am in the US, and say
"pythn", no one understands me!  So I say it again in my best American
accent, stretching the "o" to completely abnormal lengths - they then
invariably say "Oh - Python".

Same problem with "Mark" too - silly yanks always hear it as "Mack", or
"Muck" (which some would argue is quite relevant) ;-)
