Tkinter Menus question

I am having problems with the menus refreshing once they have been
viewed and then closed.  I can make the menus reappear by forcing the
entire screen to refresh, so I know that the menus are still working.
Is there something I can put in the code to force the menus to repaint
over the window when clicked on?
