Python Trademark Status

   I looked into registering a trademark for Scintilla, which is an open
source project (as a defensive move because WIPO regards trademarks as the
only basis of a defensible domain name) but it looked to me as though I was
ineligible as the mark (at least as explained on the Australian government
site) had to be used for 'trading'. Did CNRI ever 'trade' in Python or have
an intention of doing so? Is my interpretation wrong or is US law different?
