Now that you mention it, no, I'm not sure, but I could *swear* I
remember Christian saying it.  Maybe what he actually said was that
Stackless makes it *possible* to break GIL, but it's not implemented
yet.  Anyway, I can't find anything on www.stackless.com to say one way
or the other.
