Python, VC++, and Mingw32

Right.  And just as gcc is the "standard" compiler on Linux, VC is the closest
thing there is to a "standard" compiler on Windows (although many other good
compilers are available.)  The fact that the Python distrubition comes ready to
be built on VC (unlike most GNU software...) is actually a significant selling
point--not to mention its friendly license. ;-)
