Question on waterfall methods for SW Development

I've always found the iterative methodology to be better.  The
waterfal model falls down unless you know exactly what you want
from the start, i. e.  the requirements (including interfaces,
performance) are completely decided and understood.  It also
requires that you completely understand the target, tools,
resource availability, and other system components before you
start the project.

In 15 years of software development, I've never worked on a
project that met _any_ of those critera.
