Strange, I get:

nil root # ldapsearch 'objectClass=*' +
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
SASL username: root at B17
SASL SSF: 56
SASL installing layers
# extended LDIF
#
# LDAPv3
# base <> with scope sub
# filter: objectClass=*
# requesting: +
#

# nil.b17

Openldap 2.1.23, cyrus-sasl-2.1.15, mit-krb5-1.3

Most likely it is a problem with ACL's. Check if you can get the result
when binding with your 'rootdn'.
