This does not happen when I use GCC to build Python.

--($ ~/Source/gccPy/Python-2.5.2)-- /usr/sfw/bin/gcc -v

--enable-shared
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.4.3 (csl-sol210-3_4-branch+sol_rpath)
