The Universal-MacPython-2.4.3-2006-04-07.dmg seems to kludge
terminal's shell. We installed it on two systems running 10.4.6, both
systems had a previous version of python on them (2.3.5). On one system
the shell broke to where it would not run UNIX commands, even after a
re-boot. Under both systems the following shell errors occurred right
after install. The error appears when you first initiate the shell, or change
shells.
glacier-wl:~ support$ csh
csh: Badly placed ()'s.
sh-2.05b$ tcsh
tcsh: Badly placed ()'s.

This is now fixed in the trunk, and will be fixed in the next release of the
universal build as well.

Assigned to me because I'm at fault here.
This seems to be a bug in one of the postinstall scripts, I'll have a look. Sorry
about the inconvenience.

Addendum: Both systems where PPC G4 systems, and not Intel chipsets.
