BobJuner, you didn't say which version of Python you're using.  If you can, please try it with a current snapshot from CVS:  MarkH very recently fixed something similar, and possibly similar enough to be identical.

Almost certainly a dupe of 113828 - as you have not produced a test case I can not be 100% sure this is the same bug, but am pretty close to that sure :-)
