From brandon.rhodes at pythonmagazine.com Mon Aug 17 20:13:52 2009 From: brandon.rhodes at pythonmagazine.com (Brandon Craig Rhodes) Date: Mon, 17 Aug 2009 14:13:52 -0400 Subject: [Python-authors] you should write for Python Magazine Message-ID: <87ljli8g0v.fsf@rhodesmill.org> Python authors! Have you ever thought about writing for Python Magazine? I'm working right now to put together the magazine's Autumn schedule, and still need more than a dozen more articles to deliver complete and feature-filled magazines to my readers' doorsteps each month. Think about where Python is positioned as we head into the last months of 2009, and what you think are the most interesting or important topics in Python today. What have you just learned about Python that you would like to share? What have you known for a long time that has proved really valuable over your last few months of work, that you wish was more widely known or appreciated? Feature articles in the magazine run around 4,000 words; what would you want to say in that amount of space if you had it? Send me your ideas, or questions about the magazine itself; if you've ever been interested in writing, and you might find yourself writing for us and becoming part of wrapping up an exciting year for Python and for the magazine! -- Brandon Craig Rhodes brandon at rhodesmill.org http://rhodesmill.org/brandon From doug.hellmann at pythonmagazine.com Thu Aug 27 16:48:39 2009 From: doug.hellmann at pythonmagazine.com (Doug Hellmann) Date: Thu, 27 Aug 2009 10:48:39 -0400 Subject: [Python-authors] Looking for articles for Python Magazine Message-ID: <371CE093-3289-4651-9018-849D7499F1C8@pythonmagazine.com> Hi, folks, I'm working on finding articles for some up-coming issues of Python Magazine. Each of the issues is organized around one of these themes: * Back to the Basics - Not necessarily newbie-level, but reviewing topics like debugging, packaging, etc. * Games and Graphics - PIL, Steganography, PyGame, etc. * Writing Pythonic Code - Tips and guidelines, PEP 8, etc. If any of these give you ideas for articles, drop me a line and we can work out the details. Thanks, Doug -- Doug Hellmann Acquisitions Editor Python Magazine www.pythonmagazine.com From rbalfanz at gmail.com Fri Aug 28 16:24:02 2009 From: rbalfanz at gmail.com (Ryan Matthew Balfanz) Date: Fri, 28 Aug 2009 09:24:02 -0500 Subject: [Python-authors] Python-authors Digest, Vol 3, Issue 2 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <25604c130908280724w6b383f8fs99b79f624c380af@mail.gmail.com> Hi Doug, I am in talks with Brandon (if that's right?) about an article right now. I just read your mailing list post as well and am interested in the Games and Graphics (emphasis on the graphics) issue as well as the Pythonic Code issue. I don't have any specific ideas at the moment, but a PIL overview sounds doable. I haven't actually done an stenography, but I was thinking of putting a little easter egg in my existing project (which is the subject of the article I'm talking to Brandon about. which relies on PIL to partition large images into smaller web-sized images). Let me know what you think, and we can start to pin down the specifics.
