Ideally libopenbabel.so.4 should be independent from the scripting language, python, perl, ruby or pypy, and shared by all of them.

But since the two versions of libopenbabel.so.4 you have don't expose the same symbols, be careful...
Maybe an issue with gcc version or different build options?
You should report this to the openbabel development team. They certainly know better how the whole thing should be deployed.
