The goal is to create a community of practice to help support Python project maintainers socially, technologically, and logistically. I thought some of you might interested in attending. The event is going to be structured through a series of lightning talks and breakout sessions during PyCon. Please consider submitting a lightning talk through our CFP, which closes on March 15th or help us by spreading the word with your various networks and on social media, to help us raise visibility - we want to make sure everyone hears that this event is happening. If you *maintain/own an open source project*, or if you *have experience contributing* to an open source project and can help others get started, we would appreciate for you to sign up as a mentor. It doesn't have to be a Python project, it doesn't have to be big. At PuPPy's fourth anniversary event, for Guido's BDFL retirement, Don proposed to Larry that PuPPy leads a crowdfunding campaign to send Guido and his family on a Cunard cruise that visits over 50 ports of call, twice. Larry responded, Guido would hate that. He hates traveling. Guido likes discussing the intricacies of computing with others who care as much as he does. Don replied, he can do that. I have put out pitches for sponsoring the livestream. If nobody buys, I'm planning on visiting Python groups around the world to put on viewing parties before selling the video on a shareware license. Beneficiary of the proceeds is CSforALL and they work on tech inclusion. Ruthe Farmer the event chair was an Obama advisor on tech inclusion. She continues this work as Chief Evangelist for CSforALL. For those who can make the trip, here's a 50% discount code bdfl-retirement. It's good till until 4:59pm PDT, 22nd March or 2019-03-22 23:59:59 UTC, https://ti.to/puppy/CSforALLtechinclusion/discount/bdfl-retirement Looking at Expedia, flights from SFO to SEA, low as $232. I found flights from Chicago at $357. Beliebers would make the trip for a Justin Bieber show. We have here some of the stellar folks of software who have given a lot to the world. Guido described the event as historic because he's never been a part of a discussion like this before. He's made suggestions to the programming to make sure we have a substantial conversation. Support our craftspeople, make them feel appreciated. And the proceeds benefit literally, it's for the kids. [image: giphy simpons join us small.gif] ? Last year we managed to deliver the first edition of the PyLondinium conference. After having more than 200 tickets sold, 60 talk proposals, 28 talks including 4 keynotes, 3 workshops, and all the good feedback from the attendees, we knew we had to do it again next year.. And here we are! We have almost everything ready now, and we want to share all the information with you: - Dates: 14th to 16th of June, 2019 - Venue: Bloomberg's European HQ, London, EC4N 4TQ - CFP[1] is now open, and closes at midnight of April 4th. - Tickets[2] are already on sale. Affordable tickets, and different types to make this conference for everyone. - We have confirmed some keynotes, you can see this and more information in our website[3]. - You can keep up to date by subscribing to our mailing list[4] and/or following us on twitter[5]. If you missed it last year, and want to know what to expect on this edition, you can see all the talks in our YouTube channel[6] And that's all, best regards, Pedro 1: https://www.papercall.io/pylondinium-2019 2: https://www.ticketea.com/entradas-conferencia-pylondinium-2019/ 3: https://pylondinium.org/ 4: http://eepurl.com/ga6KzH 5: https://twitter.com/PyLondinium 6: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHh7vOesookNhYvupCCcJxA -- Pedro Alvarez PyLondinium19 Organization Team From marybeth at sixfeetup.com Wed Mar 27 12:05:44 2019 From: marybeth at sixfeetup.com (MaryBeth Okerson) Date: Wed, 27 Mar 2019 16:05:44 +0000 Subject: [PSF-Community] T-Minus 11 days until IndyPy Automate Conf - March 22nd In-Reply-To: <83fcbeed-0edf-343d-defd-4888775adea9@coderanger.net> References: <83fcbeed-0edf-343d-defd-4888775adea9@coderanger.net> Message-ID: <425A516D-33CC-4593-8C5A-23CBC8AB4A1F@sixfeetup.com> Hi Noah, I sent a response back to Mariatta, but I?m not sure if it made it to the whole mailing list. We sent out our call for proposals to over 100 organizations and individuals to help us achieve a more diverse line-up. Even with all our efforts, we sometime do not succeed in finding speakers. We did not exclude anyone from presenting at this conference, we simply did not have any diverse submissions. We would love help getting representatives from diverse groups to apply to speak. We are actively looking to improve and learn how to target a wider net of people to submit presentations at our conferences. Any advice is welcome. Six Feet Up, the organizer of IndyPy, is a WBE, so we definitely understand the need to create a diverse and inclusive line-up. We actively advocate for more women and diversity in tech, and we are always looking for ways to encourage more engagement with the community. We currently have an open CFP for our IndyPy Web Conf in June. It is a 2-day conference, and are seeking 44 speakers. It would be fantastic to see more submissions from the diverse Python community, with any level of speaking experience. If there is any advice on how to improve our Papercall verbiage, we would love feedback.
