The Travis-ci setup just uses pip to install the latest version.
So it should be picked up automatically when the new version is
available on pypi. It worked fine for recent release of mpl 1.2.1.

Someday, it would be nice to do a full build matrix across supported dep
versions to, but we'd need more CI muscle then travis currently provides.
