Message-ID: Anyone using a python web based password manager for work? home? ClipperZ was the first to offer javascript based decryption. Now that they have blockchained everything, just the open-source front-end is on github.com/clipperz. Came across WebKeePass which puts a web interface on your existing keepass database. i currently use keepass, but not thrilled all passwords are decrypted at once. TeamPass has much more of the feature set i am looking for except i am not sure the author knows much about securing a web server. It does have 2fa and LDAP / Active Directory integration and groups of users. TeamVault is python based and pip installable. Looks like it has started LDAP integration. github.com/trehn/teamvault passpy and passpie From wereapwhatwesow at gmail.com Tue May 24 11:04:21 2016 From: wereapwhatwesow at gmail.com (Steve Young) Date: Tue, 24 May 2016 10:04:21 -0500 Subject: [omaha] [OT] WebKeePass vs ClipperZ vs TeamPass, but none are Python based. Keeping data secure at-rest and in-transit is non-trivial when it transitions from rest to transit. I use password gorilla + syncthing (used to be dropbox) Clients are available on all the OS's I care about (*nix/*bsd/mac/win/android) It is two tools but it works for me and my family members. syncthing keeps the encrypted file synchronized across my various platforms. The local client that access the data, doesn't do any network access. So while not exactly pretty, I believe it to be one of the better, practical methods. The ClipperZ ?open source projects promise to do all decryption and encryption in javascript on the client side only. Yes, i know, many of you probably shudder at the mere thought of it, but they have been doing it since about 2006. The web server would likely be inside the firewall only and only accessible from particular web browser profiles. A dedicated browser profile for passwords that is only ever allowed to the password server, nowhere else. The use case is not just personal passwords shared among family members but also sharing third party passwords among groups of employees. This is where LDAP user groups and or roles come into play and where many business models go closed source and of course start charging $. > > I use password gorilla + syncthing (used to be dropbox) Clients are > available on all the OS's I care about (*nix/*bsd/mac/win/android) > It is two tools but it works for me and my family members. > > syncthing keeps the encrypted file synchronized across my various > platforms. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <57450057.8050900@hostetlerhome.com> I started off with pwsafe and the moved to LastPass and then when I got ownCloud setup I moved to KeePass2. Converting from LastPass to KeePass was easy. The bad news about going to KeePass2 immediately is that (and even now I think ) the KeePass2 client is bad. I'm using an alpha version of MacPass, which hasn't been updated in a long time. It doesn't have the http-server the KeePass browser extension needs so I use the Python keepass-server I sent before. The KeePass support on Linux and Windows is superb. I think the Mono support on Linux is better than on Mac. I use Keepass2Android on my mobile devices. It's gotten quite good. I sync it with ownCloud via WebDAV https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=keepass2android.keepass2android My $0.02.... Client-side encryption, multi-factor authentication integrated with various virtual and physical key providers, mobile and desktop platform integration with multiple browsers - I've been using it for almost 5 years and I'm a happy man. BUT, if you are looking for something to lock down secrets at work with a good API integration, check out Hashicorp's Vault ( https://www.vaultproject.io/) it still needs (and is receiving) some polish, but it integrates well with python (custom rolled python client library https://github.com/ianunruh/hvac ) and many other languages ( https://www.vaultproject.io/docs/http/libraries.html) and the back-end support is growing almost daily.
