From what I can remember: We met in a large room with the tables in a square shape, had introductions and guidelines. The focus was on sharing and encouraging professionalism in the craft of programming. We were given a problem to solve, and split up into pairs, one person typing, the other contributing, and you could switch if you wish. You can use any language the pair agrees to. I remember that testing was emphasized. This went on for an hour or so, then a time for sharing any insights people wanted to voice, and a break. Afterwards we chose a new partner and did it again. They had a nice catered lunch and the process repeated for the afternoon. The host did a very nice job with the whole thing. The event seemed geared towards programming professionals, not beginners. Projector with vga, hdmi (bring cable), USB HDI and a wireless option using a Creston Wireless app. I stopped in after work today to check it out. Met w/ Karen P who is their Director of community learning. She told me that they had numerous requests for Python workshops and web programming. I told her that I would bring up the idea of conducting a Python workshop with the group and we would figure out a way to work with Do Space. They allow food/drink (but not catering) we have to clean up and leave the area as clean as we found it. One thing, in my earlier email I said it was the old B&N. That is incorrect. It is in the building that was the Border's at 72nd and Dodge (South West corner). Anyone out there running google-chrome on CentOS RHEL that could do a quick test? Message-ID: $ python >>> help() help> modules Fails or segfaults on my CentOS/RHEL 7.1 system Fails, but does not segfault on my CentOS6.7 system. A buddy tested on his system and was not able to reproduce, so i started thinking what is different about mine. Almost every time, CentOS problems can be traced back to something installed outside of software repositories. Back in March, i ran a script that installs google-chrome, the script installs a different set of C Libraries. ( I do not recommend google chrome on CentOS as it is very unstable and often slows my machine to a crawl.) Does anyone else have google-chrome installed on a RHEL derivative such as CentOS or Scientific Linux and could report back the results of the above 3 line test? Thank You. I do not remember the source of the question. I was going to borrow Jeff's laptop to log in at home but since it was a Linux machine it was beyond my capabilities. To run a multi-threaded app can be quite trivial with Python's multiprocessing library from multiprocessing import pool from multiprocessing import cpu_count def my_function(input): do something with the input return something (or not) items = some_iterable <- I usually am processing a list of things p = Pool(cpu_count) results = p.map(my_function, items) There is a lot more you can do with it but at the most basic, the items list will be broken into chunks and my_function will be called on separate threads iteratively with an item from the list. from the docs: The multiprocessing module also introduces APIs which do not have analogs in the threading module. A prime example of this is the Pool object which offers a convenient means of parallelizing the execution of a function across multiple input values, distributing the input data across processes (data parallelism). This is part of the magic of Python, batteries included and you don't really have to know what is under the hood - it just works.
