I have an older vista laptop I want to install linux on. The computer has 1
gb ram.  I will mostly be doing Python development, and want to be able to
use graphviz.  Any suggestions on a linux flavor?  I would prefer stable
over cutting edge.

debian is solid and stable. Latest stable should work no problem with an
older laptop aswell.

Xubuntu or Lubuntu are good, lightweight and stable distributions.  Since
it is based on Ubuntu, you can use apt-get to install Python development
tools and Graphviz.   I use Xubuntu on an older netbook with no problems.

Debian will work but you may find some of the packages a bit old.  "Pure"
Ubuntu would turn that laptop into a little portable heater. So, going
with what the other guys said, I'd say go with Kubuntu.

In other news, I'm going to try to actually to attend some meetings. Maybe
even next week. Same spot on Industrial?

I ended up with lubuntu and it is pretty snappy on the laptop - thanks.

through) is that I have done some unit testing in Django and would be glad
to help.

I also have what I think is is pretty neat Python dev environment with
Emacs and virtualenvwrapper. I could show that off, too.

Hello,

In our last meeting, Steve mentioned that the group has talked about an
open source project to work on. I recently stumbled onto a neat project
called "djangotasks" that does asynchronous work (like batch jobs) in
Django and saves the result and log messages in the database. It hasn't
been updated in a while but it still works on my Django 1.4 project.

The main issue it has now is the unit tests don't work -- I think they were
written for Django 1.1 or 1.2 and do things like create a temporary model
and do work on that. That wasn't well supported then so the tests don't
work now but it shouldn't be incredibly difficult to get them going. Then
we can add some functionality to it (I know I have a couple of ideas to
make some things easier to do ).

I emailed one of the maintainers and he put a repo on GitHub:

It was only a few months ago when we wrapped up the hugely successful
PyCon 2012, and we started working on the 2013 conference right away.
PyCon 2013 will again be in Santa Clara, California, with tutorials
kicking off March 13, the conference March 15, and sprints beginning
March 18. Along with our site release at https://us.pycon.org/2013/,
we opened our Call for Proposals a month earlier than last year at
https://us.pycon.org/2013/speaking/cfp/.

We're looking to you, the community, to help us make PyCon 2013 even
better. We're accepting proposals through September 28, hoping to
break last year's record of 519 talk, tutorial, and poster proposals.
We're looking for all types of presentations from all types of people.
If you've got a topic to share, we hope you'll submit a proposal.
