That would make the first meeting April 12, 2007. If you are planning on attending the meetings, does the second Thursday of the month present any conflicts? Where did you happen to see the notice about the mail list? Yahoo? I've mangled my meetup profile to point to the wiki and I contacted Aaron over at ITinOmaha.org to get it listed on the calendar. I've just started getting the word out so if you see me missing something please let me know. Maybe once we get going we could get a lunch meeting set up occasionally. Hopefully the group will be as large as the last time we met back in 2001. -Jeff On 3/27/07, mike at hostetlerhome.com wrote: > Unfortunately my schedule stinks in the evenings, so don't plan around > like (like you would want to . . ) > > And thank you, Jeff, for getting this group going again!! > > > I've tentatively set the meeting dates for the second Thursday of the > > month. I found Andrew Dalke's PyRSS2Gen but was wondering if there is anything else more popular. I am looking to make an RSS feed out of emails so I can track some newsgroups in my news aggreator. So a module that would output various feed types/versions based on the same input is what I'm looking to find. *RSS versions -- is there a "standard" for RSS? There are always a bunch of feed links on pages for the various versions - can I just ignore the .91 and .92 variants and just output v2? -- Jeff Hinrichs jeffh at dundeemt.com From omapython at hostetlerhome.com Fri Mar 30 16:30:17 2007 From: omapython at hostetlerhome.com (Mike on Python) Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2007 10:30:17 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [omaha] RSS generators for Python In-Reply-To: <5aaed53f0703300625u1201a7e9s30ce9db04252265f@mail.gmail.com> References: <5aaed53f0703300625u1201a7e9s30ce9db04252265f@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <49972.69.58.248.102.1175265017.squirrel@email.powweb.com> I would use Atom instead of RSS. As you found out, the RSS standards are, well, not very standard. But the Atom standard is quite strong. Most aggregators can understand Atom as well. And Python's feedparser understands it. A quick google found this: http://trac.defuze.org/browser/oss/atomixlib But I think the problem with using someone else's generator is that the generator doesn't know about your data -- you still have to tell it what goes where, so you are kinda building your own generator anyway. So why not build your own? With ElementTree, it wouldn't be too hard to do. My $0.02 . . .
