Hi Mike,

The portion of the numarray self-test that is failing requires 
Numeric-24.2 to succeed because it is testing the new "array interface" 
which did not exist until 24.2.  Without 24.2,  numarray sees Numeric 
arrays as more general Python sequences and therefore casts to the 
default array type for that Python scalar kind.  This results in type 
mismatches.
