The response from most people was mostly positive as we fulfilled "the" base requirement i.e to have a team large enough and active enough that is capable of pulling the event off. Next step is *we need to put in a proposal; *where we mention details like - Where in Delhi we can hold the event. - How much it will cost, for Venue, Food, Networking Equipment. - Availability of venue for next october. The python India community as a whole will then decide where the next event takes place based on the proposal. We need to test that there is enough interest in the whole Python India community to hold the event in Delhi. We have about 9-10 days to send the proposal. We need people to first, goto places like Srifort auditorium, India Habitat center, India Islamic Center, JLN stadium(new indoor facilities), Talkatora Stadium, Pragati Maidan auditoriums... To try and find out if they have:: - Enough space to hold ~1200 folks and if they have enough space in their auditoriums to hold least 1000 folks for the keynote and 300 + for workshops, talks etc. - Enough place to hold dev sprints, open spaces. - If the place offers Food with the halls like IHC does. If so what's the price. - If the place offers existing Internet infrastructure, Video recording...(unlikely but we should still ask) If I missed out anything do not hesitate to add. Regards Akkshay p.s. Few of us would be making a day out of it and visit IHC and all the centers around South Delhi on this saturday (10th Oct) to check out the details if you want to join us or do the same for centers around your place don't hesitate to do the same. Assuming that Pycon India is happening in Delhi, I would also seriously look at JNU. Their new conference facilities are excellent, and for an open-source conference either free, or at minimal cost. We absolutely realize that a conference of that scale will require months of preparation and a very active community of people and organization. However we have been able to muster up some good amount of energy in the last few months and I am sure we can pull it off. Also realizing the scale of the event we have planned a mini conference in Delhi as a precursor. It would be great if we get support all the people in the community to be able to pull off these seemingly terrifying tasks. > > Assuming that Pycon India is happening in Delhi, I would also seriously look > at JNU. Thats a great suggestion however we have had a lot of problems with JNU as venue for things. We had planned 2 events in the past out of which one had to be cancelled because of university elections and the attendees found very difficult to find the venue because of some bureaucratic thing. However its a great venue with a lot of potential attendees from within the campus and any help we can get in terms references, procedures etc would be great. The name was chosen by a vote if you remember. The research we need to do for PyDelhi conference will continue along with the search for PyCon India. The plan is to hold the PyDelhi Conference in February (will be sending out a e-mail for vote) 2016 giving us least 9 months to plan for PyCon India if our proposal get's accepted. I would also seriously look at JNU. Their new conference facilities are > excellent, and for an open-source conference either free, or at minimal > cost. Right, We have been in talks with JNU trying to hold regular meet ups in that place, We had a lot of issues getting official permissions. We held one of our meets there and had a talk with Professor Andrew from JNU, the talks with him were positive but we were not able to get a hold of him for getting official permissions (Written permissions). Even though we have a person that was in contact with us(Vippin) that is at JNU trying to get a hold of Professor Andre or harris to get written permissions. I contacted Andrew personally on his phone, he asked me to send the details on his mail, which I did but was not able to get a response on the same from him. In short it was not easy to get a hold of either harris not just by few of us but even through a student/TA who goes there every day. @Gora We will keep trying and encourage you to do the same but we should not depend on JNU only. @Gora, can I get a small smile/exclamation of joy out of you at the possibility? It's so nice that the community as a whole is very positive and want's to allow other places to least try :). Here is to all of you who made this possible! THANK YOU PyDelhi! no matter the outcome! In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Dear Amit, and Akshay, Maybe all of us should meet and talk (how about the coming Sat. in the 11am-2pm timeframe, at any location in Delhi?), as there are entirely too many things to cover in email. Again, I would like to be convinced that this will actually work, as getting involved implies *huge* costs in terms of time from anyone involved in organisation. Making the much-talked about "PyDelhi conference" work would go a long ways to alleviate my concern, but I fail to understand how a timeline of Feb. 2016 for that jibes with a 9-10 day timescale for sending a proposal toPycon India. The venue, whether it be JNU, or elsewhere, is a secondary consideration. IMHO, any existing issues with JNU can be worked out (you guys also have to remember that all such efforts in the past were last-minute, and JNU doesn't deal well with that, and I had warned you about it), and just the saving in costs should make JNU one of the primary targets. (Just for the record, I have zero ties with JNU, besides having friends there that have immensely helped open-source conferences in the past, and maybe could also accommodate Pycon India.) So I started looking out for venues initially when the discussion for hosting the "Pydelhi Conference" was going around. Now i would like to point out the rather then going to a venue most of the information can be collected from the internet or just by calling the venue. All of the venues have detailed informations available to the facilities and booking procedures etc. As mentioned by Gora about JNU Conference facilities they are also available for hire just like the Siri fort, IHC, etc. So we can take it into account that hiring any other facility would be far more effort that taking into consideration JNU for the mere fact that there is a considerable volunteer strength that will be available from the campus itself if we hire the conference facilities. Here are links to the various options that i have looked into along with JNU. 1. Siri Fort Audi : http://www.dff.nic.in/sirifortbooking.asp 2. IHC http://www.habitatworld.com/con-audi.php, http://www.indiahabitat.org/page?view=facilities 3. IIC http://www.iicdelhi.nic.in/User_Panel/UserView.aspx?TypeID=1156 4. JNU http://www.jnu.ac.in/Facilities/ConventionCentre.asp 5. Epicenter, Gurgaon http://epicentre.co.in/convention_details.php The cost of hiring with full a.v facilities for a full day event will be somewhere around 60k-1L depending upon what all we want to leverage from the venue. @Gora the discussion about hosting a Pycon have been going around every since there was a mail sent out on the pycon india mailing list about the fact that bangalore people are looking for people to come forward and take the responsibility of hosting the event. This is very useful. I agree with Vinay that just ending up at the venue isn't very practical. We should have an idea about the rates, and we should also have a contact person at each venue we're planning to explore. Vinay, you seem to have done some homework here. Shall the two of us take this up in more detail and find people we can talk to at each probable venue? We have now setup mumble[1], an open source VoIP solution on our own server, initial trial is pretty satisfying, and we encourage everyone to join our weekly conference call @ Thrus 9am via this tool. You need the following details to connect: Server/host: mumble.pydelhi.org Port: 64738 (thats the default port) Channel: pydelhi (username: whatever you like) (password: leave empty) Head over to http://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page do download the client for your device. Did speak with Prof. Andrew Lynn, and the JNU conference facilities should be sufficient both for the small conference in Feb., and Pycon India. We should discuss this in our next meeting/conference call as Prof. Lynn says that JNU could participate in the conference, with attendant benefits in terms of cost and organisation, if one of the tracks could be big data with Python. This is also an area where they could bring in speakers from the scientific community. Agreed. It would make sense to just use a Django view. Not everything has to go through DRF even if you are using it, though I would then question whether you need DRF at all. Maybe you could explain what you are trying to do. So I am actually creating an API for one of the Android based application. You can read about it here [0]. Now what I want is I have a dataset now all I want is to get the result from the database using raw query and the result of that query should be in JSON format. To explain for instance : Endpoint : /search request : { "name": "abc" } Response { "name":"abc" "foo":"bar" "foo1":"bar1" } Now I want all this to be done without the use of actually putting models in there.
