Moreover concern over the speakers in PyDelhi. Its the first conference from Delhi-Ncr team so it should be done in proper way,so that we may attract larger number of developers next time(and even this time). It will be an advantage if the Speakers are from following sections: 1: Development(Core+some advance features of python) 2: Web-Development (Django or Flask) 3: Automation (Locust or Splinter). 4: Scope & Future of Python(advances in past 2 years and future scope of python). If the time duration is not sufficient for all of these to happen, then we may have parallel sessions. But the PyDelhi should be diversified. Also promotion of PyDelhi is an important issue to be covered. Regards, Amir Jamil -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... People do know me as being a curmodgeon, so please pardon me if this comes across as harsh, but can we focus on important things? Positive and constructive interference are always welcome and I think everyone should respect it. I personally didn't had any objections to any questions posted by you on this mailing list. As far as this thread and requirement is concerned, is a result of discussion on our IRC channel[1] and the idea is only announce the requirement for people/companies to help out. We already have confirmation from one person[name not disclosed yet] about sponsoring food/snacks for ~50 people @ Rs 300 per head. If more people what to do it the same, the final bill will be divided equally which will be paid directly by them at the venue. > While I am sure that many companies, including ours, would be glad to provide space and pay for any food/drink, but could we maybe have 3-5 regular meetings and establish a consensus on how the group is going to function before jumping to such trivial matters? The process has already begun. We have had 6 online video meeting, 3 user group meetups and have already closed the call for core-volunteers form[2] where we invite people to organize themselves in 5 teams (as it shown in the form[]) who in tern will collectively decide the overall functioning of this Python Delhi User Group. All those who filled up the form have been instructed to: 1. remain connected to IRC and this mailing list 2. join our weekly video call whenever possible. 3. assemble at our next meetup[3] on 8th August to personal meet with each other and take up responsibilities formally. I hope I was able to bring little insight into things happening. Things move fast. We try our best to keep up against the limitation/benefits of different tools of communication available today. **Footnotes: [1] http://colabti.org/irclogger/irclogger_log/pydelhi?date=2015-07-31#l44 [2] https://bit.ly/pydelhi-call-for-core-organisers [3] http://www.meetup.com/pydelhi/events/224203701/ Cheers, -- Saurabh Kumar https://saurabh-kumar.com From akshayaurora at gmail.com Sat Aug 1 10:58:17 2015 From: akshayaurora at gmail.com (qua non) Date: Sat, 1 Aug 2015 14:28:17 +0530 Subject: [PyDelhi] REGARDING THE PYDELHI In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: On Sat, Aug 1, 2015 at 12:33 PM, Raakesh kumar wrote: > > On Sat, Aug 1, 2015 at 11:48 AM, mohammad amir jamil < > amirjamil900 at gmail.com> wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> I wanted to know that how many tickets are being raised up for the >> PyDelhi. >> Moreover concern over the speakers in PyDelhi. >> Its the first conference from Delhi-Ncr team so it should be done in >> proper way,so that we may attract larger number of developers >> next time(and even this time). >> >> It will be an advantage if the Speakers are from following sections: >> >> 1: Development(Core+some advance features of python) >> 2: Web-Development (Django or Flask) >> 3: Automation (Locust or Splinter). >> 4: Scope & Future of Python(advances in past 2 years and future scope of >> python). >> > > I am available for 1 and 2. > > _______________________________________________ > https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/ncr-python.in > http://bit.ly/pydelhi-mailinglist-guidelines > Hi Amir, These are very good and valid questions, I will try and address some of them here with some suggestions, every one else should feel free to chime in. However let me re-iterate what Rakesh Kumar said here, - Instead of making the final decisions on mailing lists we hold *weekly hangout calls.* - Whose *links are posted on irc (#pydelhi) *and *bi-monthly physical meets(meetup) every other saturday*. So please attend these as these are the best places to get familiar and help out with decision making process. Now on to the actual issues raised by Amir:: *Tickets*: Amount and Price. Both these would have to be decided based on the *time*, *place* and *venue* of the conference. *Time:* *--------* Last meet we discussed to give ourself enough time to manage this event properly and it was decided that 4 months of minimum time would be needed for managing the event properly. We have had some suggestions on the irc, including trying for 28th November or try to hold it together with the OpenData Event being planned on 14th of November, we could hold our event on 15th. The second suggestion would help us get a lot more foot fall with open data event being clubbed together with ours. *Place/Venue* *-----------------* Still to be decided, most talks about this would happen on our next meet up, open data folks should be there so we can try and have a healthy discussion and hopefully good options put forward. Possible options are places like India Habitat Center or Talkatora Stadium or Sri fort auditorium. We need to check for prices and their availability. and decide based on these info. A better discussion about this can happen on then next weekly hangout meet on thursday or on the physical meet this Saturday. If any one has some contact with these institutes please feel free to contact them and let us know about the price per day. Talks and Keynote Speakers ====================== With more talks coming and people wanting to do volunteer for this I suggest we need to come up with a proper structure for talk submissions and allow for people to vote on the the list of submissions. The no of votes would be taken as a guide and final decision be taken by all the volunteers combined. Just like the procedure being followed in PyCon India. We should discuss on the details for this on the hangout sessions/our next meet up. We have started a rough draft to serve as the sponsorship document https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Pkx9Jql9Em1A_kKIgC_Z3Oxnt3QNMYqmd-8pw8wfR-0/edit This also servers as temporary place to aggregate the current progress(look at the last page). We decided on our last meet up to move all this to a pydelhi.org/conferense or pydelhi.org/sponsors... for each category. TLDR? Regular hangout sessions on Thursday 9-10 pm Regular meets every other Saturday, next one on 8th Join in ! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi Gora, Nice to see you interact here, I just learned a new word cause of you. curmudgeon . Thanks. I see two major point you mention, essentially:: could we maybe have 3-5 regular meetings and establish a consensus on how > the group is going to function As Saurabh points out above we have been having very regular meets with the no. of attendees growing every meet :) The fact that you missed these might be a indication that *we are not reaching out to every one* properly. *What we did::* *-------------------* We used multiple mediums so as to not leave out any one:: - The Mailing list(If you are reading this then you are already on it :)) - Meetup.com http://www.meetup.com/pydelhi/ page - Facebook https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/pydelhi - http://pydelhi.org - irc #pydelhi So a person using least one of these would get to know about the meets. *I recognize this as a issue, Let us know of what other mediums we should be using so we can reach more people.* We also post - *Meeting minutes on the mailing list* after every meet along with the - *Invite to the hangout sessions* to ML and irc so it's easy to follow. Just to recap *what has happened till now*. We had a very positive response in our meet on June 20th where we - Held ad-hoc talks and presentations - Recorded some of these and put them up on the pydelhi youtube channel for people to see This is the link to the PyDelhi youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3QVyJ-Zt0QoYAibn4SD20A - We were so impressed by the response we decided to try and hold bi monthly meetups with talks and presentations. This was a experiment and surprisingly the response was amazing, specially from students who were just getting into this. *we even had companies come up and pitch to students and professionals.* This was a surprising turn of events where we found ourself not only helping the students and professionals have a place to gel together and learn from each other, we had a place even for companies found worth while hanging around and pitching to the community. This all was not something that happened on it's own but cause of the concerted efforts of every one involved, Including Anuvrat, Saurabh, Vinay, Satya, Geetika, me and all others who I am forgetting to mention right now. I am also leaving a lot of details like procuring a server + host and other things that would simply make this e-mail too long (Which it already is :p) plenty of drafts and documents for organizing... etc. Simply put there has been a lot of effort and community building that has happened only in a short period of time we have had amazing 3 physical meets and 6 hangout meets which were a blast and have shown use our strength. We would be glad to get more people involved in this, please do not hesitate to join in. This meet at Hauz Khas would be our 4th meet since June 20th. The Second point:: While I am sure that many companies, including ours, would be glad to > provide space and pay for any *food/drink*, but could we maybe have 3-5 > regular meetings and establish a consensus on how the group is going to > function before jumping to such *trivial matters*? *Sponsorship from companies:* If we want to see the community thrive and be self sustainable then figuring out whether companies find this process to be worth while for them enough to spend money on such trivial things is important. While as a company you might feel this matter of sponsoring for food/place to be trivial enough but we want to see how many companies feel this strongly enough to come forward and actually provide. *To see if companies just want to take or if they can give back too.* Hopefully as we have seen from least one company that they are ready to pitch in, we would like to see such a response from more companies. Here is hoping we have a healthy response from all the companies involved. On Sat, Aug 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM, Saurabh Kumar wrote: > > I have been bemused by watching this thread. I have a suggestion for such a dev sprint for this sprint that will go on along with the regular workshop. In separate rooms if available. 1. For people interested in doing a bit more than just a doc/translation effort. We will be holding a open ended code sprint. Every one can choose what ever they want to work on based on the subjects available below. 1. We will need volunteers(experts on a subject) to add to the subjects list below. These Volunteers would be responsible for being the guide for people that need some help in that subject. Subjects:: - Kivy (Akshay Arora) *Options*:: - Sprint to fix bugs http://github.com/kivy/kivy/issues - Sprint to Make a app Mobile & Desktop app for Python Conference Delhi. - First draft will attempt to mimic the behavior of apps for Pycon India - More suggestions? *Pre Setup* needed: Kivy should be ready and installed on your dev machine. - -
*Documentation/Translation sprint:* ---------------------------------------- For beginners looking to get into open source we will be holding a sprint for that purpose. 15 minute walk through:: 1. Choose a Project:: kivy will be used as a sample project(people will be free to choose what ever project they choose). 2. Setting up github account. This is a fairly straight forward step and as such we expect any one participating to do this before hand. 3. Looking at the project Page/irc for guides for contributing `contributing .md` 4. We will start with small(one line) edits to doc can be directly made on github?s site. 5. We will then fix some small grammatical errors using command line git client. 6. Students should feel free to start finding and fixing any grammatical/other errors in documentations. 7. Translations: Walking through guiding people to contribute to translation for a open source project(http://translation.kivy.org) The rest of the session students can continue either with translations or doc corrections. Estimated time: 15 minutes for initial setup, Students interested to keep doing/following on this can continue on this for however long they like. Chime in let me know if this makes sense and if you will be interested in attending such a code sprint. If you can volunteer for managing code sprint, don?t hesitate to put up your hand either. In case you are confused or if we sound too pretentious, think of Dev sprint as having a good time, coding hands-on with your fellow Python programmers. The atmosphere will be that of an intense one, extremely focused on projects, with mentors hanging around to help you overcome any roadblock that you might face. The usual outcome of these intense sprints are patches, bug fixes and numerous upstream pull requests from almost all the participants. Been dreaming about contributing to open source projects? Well, look no further because there won't be a better chance than this. The Sprint will be held on Oct 2nd from 9AM - 7.30 PM on the 1st floor of the conference venue. We will open participant registrations next month. Meanwhile, we have opened the CFP[1] for the dev sprints! If you have a project which you can mentor for, then please add your project and its description in the proposal page linked to above. Projects can include any personal ones that contribute to the Python ecosystem or mainstream projects such as CPython, Django, Flask, Pandas, SymPy etc. Be sure to make one proposal per project and also one proposal per mentor as well. Once we close the CFP, we will make a list of the accepted projects and the participants will be able to choose from them while they participate in the event. Please re-blog and share the blog post[2] on Dev Sprint and spread the word. Don't forget to put in your proposal too! So more people have a chance to join in. That plus posting the meeting minutes. Regards Akkshay -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... 'PyDelhi Conference' was selected as the name. Next step is to select a Logo for the same. This goes out to the artists in our midst, we are looking for a Logo for our first PyDelhi Conference. PyDelhi Conference is an annual conference with experts from various fields giving talks on their respective subjects. Since PyDelhi Conference is a volunteer driven event, it would be apt if the new logo comes from the community itself. Thus, we are organising a Logo Making Competition. The agenda is simple, make a logo for 'PyDelhi Conference'. The logo should relate to Python. Be as creative as you can. Size of the logo: Square, 1:3 ratio (wide version) Format of the logo: .eps, .ai, editable pdf, .svg. (any one, in order of preference) Submit your entries at : Just give us a link to your art. The winning entry shall be used as the logo of PyDelhi Conference, and the winner shall get a T-shirt. The winning entry shall be decided by a vote via a Google Form, following approval of PSF[1] The rules are as follows: 1) You cannot use copyrighted content. 2) You cannot pass someone else's work as your own. Plagiarism shall not be tolerated, and you shall be disqualified. 3) You can submit multiple entries. 4) The competition ends on September 9. No entries shall be entertained after that. 5) You must adhere to the guidelines put forward by PSF regarding the usage of word ?Python? and the python logo[2] 6) Do not post your entries on this mailing list as attachments.
