Found a good book to Learn Python in the easiest way.
type and learn.

1.
Get the book from http://learnpythonthehardway.org

The book is a very beginner book for people who want to learn to code.
If you can already code then the book will probably drive you insane.
It's intended for people who have no coding chops to build up their
skills before starting a more detailed book.

The book is very simple:

? ?* 52 exercises in all.
? ?* 26 cover just input/output, variables, and functions.
? ?* 26 cover logic (boolean algebra, if-statements, while-loops, etc.)

Each exercise is one or two pages and follows the exact same format.
You type each one in (no copy-paste!), make it run, do the extra
credit, and then move on. If you get stuck, at least type it in and
skip the extra credit for later.

2. http://diveintopython.org This is really cool one. Please try this also.

3. "A byte of python" this is also one of the easy way to learn python
as beginner. Try to search tutorial in net for this.

I know basic python stuff. No specific areas. I know some gui stuff also.
Have been using python since two years. I have also used the game engine
Panda3d(where we have to code the game in python), Modelling engine
Blender3d(made in python, scripted in python). I believe python can be used
anywhere and everywhere.....

Hi
I am Tavish Naruka, and i have some experience with python. I used python in
the last few months for quick scripting (mostly as a replacement for
matlab/octave), and also for some realtime audio processing, for which i
found that python wasn't the best choice.

Copying python mailing list for more suggestions :-)

Start with installing webserver like apache and db. For web development, use
a framework like web2py or Django. I have been using web2py for quite some
time and it is very simple and follows the MVC architecture and pretty good
integration with database layer.

Django has been around for a long time and has pretty big user base when
compared to web2py. Web2py is comparatively new.
You can choose either of these frameworks. You can of course avoid using any
framework all together but frameworks makes your life little simpler and it
will be easier for you as you have not done anything for web before.

For data mining tool, you need good knowledge of db. Processing of data can
be done very easily in python layer. You can check out
http://wiki.python.org/moin/NumericAndScientific/Plotting for graphs/charts
etc.

I am Arunmozhi. Currently doing my Final Year in Electrical and Electronics

Hi
I need a led style button widget using python+wxwindows. The button
should switch between green and red colours on clicking. it should be
possible to change the colours by program as well. Has anyone
attempted such a thing earlier?
Also, is a thread alone enough to update gui? what are the latencies
usually seen on different platforms?

Hi,

I have been doing some data mining/ scrapping work for sometime using
Python. I donot know the kind of documents you are going handle. Since you
mentioned webserver, I think it would be of HTML and XML documents mostly
(May be I am wrong). But if thats what you are doing, then BeautifulSoup is
an important Library for DOM traversing.

And there is a website named http://www.scraperwiki.com, which supports data
scrapping from web and online storage of the data you collect on their
datastore. You can license the data as per your wish.  It supports multiple
languages like Python, PHP, Ruby..etc., This site is helpful, as it reduces
your burden of setting up your own database. If you want data for other
applications, they provide a API for datastore access.

Hope your tool was as I guessed and the information is useful.

on limitation with BeautifulSoup though - if there is some javascript
in your page, it won't be executed. BeautifulSoup simply fetches the
soucre of page not DOM per se.

You can try to use the image and show different images of the LEDs
whenever needed or based on the event. You can also use a button with
a background image to do the same.

What kind of latencies are you talking about? This depends on the kind
of update you require. If the LED update depends on some long block
I/O then you are better off by having an independent process to the
update.

     when i try running configure i am getting the following error

checking for
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/numpy/core/include/numpy/arrayobject.h...
no
configure: error: Numpy extension header not found

i can see the header in location
 /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/numpy/core/include/numpy/arrayobject.h

i also have the package "python-numeric.x86_64 : Numerical Extension to
Python" installed

i am using x86_64 Fedora 14 , tried passing CFLAGS too to configure it does
not help, any clues what is happening?

ok i have passed that error read the configure script it was CPPFLAGS
instead of CFLAGS ;-)

I need to parse a url for it's content in python. I want to execute
all js of html page associated with the url and then parse for the
content so that javascript induced changes in content are also
present. I was wondering if there is a way to execute js associated in
page in sandbox environment before I start parsing it.

BeautifulSoup library only fetches source of page. I need the access
to DOM after js execution with url as input parameter.

Maybe you can fetch the page (and parse it using BeautifulSoup or
something like that) and then use python-spidermoney to execute the
javascript.

I've not done this myself so I don't know how effective it will be. 

If it's an option to have a browser running where your script is
executing, you might be able to ask Firefox to do all the Javascript
work and then fetch the rendered page using MozRepl
(https://github.com/bard/mozrepl/wiki)

Hello All,

I am a final year BE student. While most of my mates are sincerely
searching for a spot in the corporates, me and two of my friends
cherish a dream of creating a business for ourselves. We got something
like a few website development offers and that has motivated us
further. But we are not really going to stick to web development as
such and want to get into customized application development and
software deployment.

I recently saw a message in the "NCR Python Users Group India"
discussing Data Mining tool for collecting data from Excel Documents
and displaying them on web pages. I think these are some untapped
areas of software deployment, at least here in India.

So, now the questions in my mind are:
1. Can we really survive as a company creating application specific or
customized software for situations like the one I have mentioned
above?
2. Is there really market for such software and services in India?
Kindly keep in mind FOSS.
3. If there is a possibility to survive. Are we going to be judged by
the work we do or by the industry experience we have or supposed to
have? (Remember I am still at college)
4. At last, how much are we going to be paid for these kind of jobs?
Keeping in mind that depends on the quality of work we do and our
ability to negotiate, I would like to know the scale where I would be
starting.

I request whoever reading this mail to give your views and ideas.

P.S: If possible repost this mail in the mailing lists you prefer
appropriate. I do not know anyone in the field of software or startup
as of now.

provides a very nice globals browser which comes in handy when you are
working on models or using a lot of django's core elements. Does any
body know of some module that provides nice autocomplete features with
django on emacs.

I use autocomplete.el [1] and enable it for my Python buffers. It's not
context aware but does a good job. 

I don't like magical context aware completions myself so I haven't tried
anything more sophisticated. However, you can integration ipython and
Emacs to get context sensitive completions. I got it working once but
got rid of it.
