I was going to answer your upgrade questions, but other
people beat me to it.

I did an upgrade from 1.5.1 to 1.6.3 earlier this year
and it was a fairly laborious task.  You have to be pretty
meticulous at following the directions.  (And I had to hand-
manipulate a few things that the scripts didn't do correctly)
However, things did get into the right places and formats eventually,
with most of the conversion automated.

Other things to watch out for... the directory structure changed,
as well as the format of the user account files, etc.  Your awk
script might well change the page format, but if you want
to keep user accounts and get attachments in the right place,
etc. it's worth running through the upgrade scripts.
