That rev displays, then I navigate away from it, or hit clear or something, and now I'm viewing the latest rev again. But, now the raw and print links in the iconbar still link to rev=10. What's more, these two link to rev=10 on *all* pages on the entire site. I can go to another computer on another browser, load it up cold, and I still see the same problem. If I go back to any page's version history and pick some version, say rev=21, then now the iconbar links for raw and print will always show rev=21. You can try it out for yourself at: http://swindale.ecc.ubc.ca I've noticed that if I choose "raw text" or "print view" from the drop down list in the side panel, those work fine, displaying the current version as expected. Seems like it's some kind of caching problem in generating the html for the link in the iconbar. I get the same problem with the classic theme. I don't know if there are any other themes that also use the iconbar. Has this been fixed in the latest rev by any chance? Any ideas? Where might the problem be in the code? Message-ID: Hi I just started setting-up a wiki with MoinMoin and I have to say that I'm loving it. I've tried other wikis like Xwiki and Twiki but I love MoinMoin as it's so simple but highly configurable. Good work!! Anyway, I installed the balanced theme on MoinMoin 1.5.8 which works fine but for some reason I can no longer see the logout link once logged-in (if you know what I mean). So I have no way to logout once logged-in. This makes this theme almost unusable. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this or have a workaround? Today I put an end to it, at least for now. This is probably a cat-and-mouse game, but rather than block all Chinese IP addresses here is what I did. Scripts enter the UserPreferences page without reporting a "referer" URL. Here is an actual access_log line: 210.192.126.136 - - [05/Nov/2007:19:29:38 -0800] "GET /UserPreferences HTTP/1.1" 302 310 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; Windows XP 5.1; MSIE 6)" the dash enclosed by quotes is the referer URL, Apache adds the hyphen to have something there, but in real time the string is blank. Adding this rewrite rule to .htaccess has redirected the scumbag robote to a page that says your IP address is blocked: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} UserPreferences RewriteRule /UserPreferences http://etc.Gnarlodious.com/BlockedAddress.html [R,L] If you want to just send a blank page with a "Forbidden" header use this final line instead: RewriteRule .* - [F] Note that you should not just copy and paste this text into an htaccess file, because the file must be all UNIX characters. Non-UNIX characters will cause servers to error. Spammers can get around this obstacle by simply sending a non-zero string for "referer". Be aware that users who navigate to the UserPreferences page from a bookmark will also be forbidden, since bookmarks return no referer string. If they arrive from any moin page they will be allowed. This solution should satisfy us who will still be using the older moin for a while. I have another more bulletproof solution but it blocks all Chinese ISPs from the UserPreferences page, so this one is preferable for now. Probably a better solution would be to block address ranges and REQUEST_METHOD POST . -- Gnarlie From tw-public at gmx.de Tue Nov 6 02:23:15 2007 From: tw-public at gmx.de (Thomas Waldmann) Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2007 08:23:15 +0100 Subject: [Moin-user] Antispam for chinese spammers In-Reply-To: <3130eec50711051953v5b85afa9q1b17fd321399c468@mail.gmail.com> References: <3130eec50711051953v5b85afa9q1b17fd321399c468@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: <1194333795.5934.1.camel@black> Another way to avoid some chinese spam (if your wiki does not have legitimate chinese-writing users) is to put some common chinese characters (words) onto LocalBadContent. Until there's some better way of overriding the default 'view' behaviour, I found I could restore the 'get' behaviour with a simple change. In 1.6.0beta1 in /formatter/text_html.py, in the Formatter.attachment_link() method around line 641, I changed: target = AttachFile.getAttachUrl(pagename, fname, self.request, do='view') to target = AttachFile.getAttachUrl(pagename, fname, self.request, do='go') Now, clicking on an attachment link downloads directly instead of taking me to the attachment page with the download link. I've also done this with json so that I could use a bit of ajax in another page in the site, but that's obviously another topic. So if your page is somesite.com/News you may want somesite.com/NewsFeed?action=raw to be your rss. Viewing NewsFeed without the ?action=raw provides useless output. This is not automated, but I'd thought of using something like Gustavo's "edit moin" software and a script to dynamically update the page from another computer to provide the appearance of semi-dynamic data. (Gustavo - just another reason why you're one of my heroes!) I ended up not doing this and basically ditching the project since the wiki used here was not cached in any way and RSS readers can be merciless when checking for updates. But I used it enough to know that it works perfectly. -- Matthew Nuzum newz2000 on freenode -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In case you did not configure backlog in your moin.fcg, it will use our default value of 5. You should try a smaller value then by putting backlog = 4 into moin.fcg (into Config class, e.g. between logPath and properties). I can't find it at moinmo.in. For those who haven't heard about it before, this macro allows you to resize the text that is shown in a page. For example, when you have many things written inside a field in a database, you use this macro and it puts a little triangle besides the content in the field. When you press it, it shrinks the content and shows just few lines of it. Press it again and it shows all content. So, I thought I'd pause to say "Thanks." Don't know if the developers collect success stories. I know I like to hear about success with the stuff I build. So here are two: 1 - A couple years back, I wanted a team wiki for a product engineering team I was running. (Mult-protocol mobile VPN and router, in SW and HW - really.) So, I tagged one of the guys, we picked a MoinMoin and were up within a day or two. Within a couple months we were running tech support / crash diagnosis via the wiki, collecting build / release information via the wiki, and regularly adding to the "How to" and "Design notes" article. Same guy ran supported the thing. He'd never seen a wiki before and still isn't a Python developer. 2 - I've been using MoinMoin desktop as a PIM and writing workbench for a couple years now. I started as yet another attempt at dealing with a PIM, when I have hated every piece of PIM software I've used before. I started collecting writing fragments, references and whole pieces in the Wiki a while after that. Right now I can't imagine *not* having my personal MoinMoin up all the time to catch what I'm coming across. Shortly, I'm going to undertake a project to inject email, incoming and outgoing into that MoinMoin instance - I'm that addicted. Anyway, before I ask for some help, I figured I should at least thank the people who make and support MoinMoin for all it has done for me already. The thing that I find most convincing is that we do not talk about bugs or security leaks a lot here, but about features and the future of Moin. If I look at Twiki that looks very different. That should be easy enough even for me to add domain-test. so you have moin on a public ip, you want it readonly for the internet, but internal people can make changes after they register. with a different wiki, I did something similar by using the same "data" with two different apache directives. the url "a" wiki was readonly, the url "b" access to the same wiki had read/write but required htaccess. that worked, but it meant maintaining htaccess files. in moin you could do the same with group acl :) moderated registration would be nice, maybe just set the moin mailserver to the university mx, hopefully it is not an open relay. :) could be problematic if somebody changes their email address domain... // George -- George Georgalis, information system scientist < From newz at bearfruit.org Sat Nov 24 12:18:21 2007 From: newz at bearfruit.org (Matthew Nuzum) Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2007 11:18:21 -0600 Subject: [Moin-user] user generation with mail confirmation In-Reply-To: <20071124171339.GT25277@run.duo> References: <47484D7F.2090208@online.de> <20071124171339.GT25277@run.duo> Message-ID: On Nov 24, 2007 11:13 AM, George Georgalis wrote: > so you have moin on a public ip, you want it readonly for the > internet, but internal people can make changes after they > register. > > with a different wiki, I did something similar by using the same > "data" with two different apache directives. the url "a" wiki was > readonly, the url "b" access to the same wiki had read/write but > required htaccess. > You can do this with moin too, but I'm not sure its the easiest way. I was deleting hundreds of users this way, but have since retired the command I was using. I haven't had a Chinese spammer in about a month. Here's how I did it: Go your your Apache .htaccess file and add text like this: ## Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On # Block unreferred scripts from creating accounts RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} UserPreferences RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} ^$ RewriteRule/UserPreferences - [F] # Block Asian ISPs from creating accounts RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^58 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^123 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^125 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^210 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^219 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^220 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^221 [OR] RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^222 RewriteRule /UserPreferences - [F] ## The first block looks for scripts that come from no referrer URL, and blocks them from the UserPreferences page regardless of ISP. This amounts to about 10% of my account creation attempts. Any user who comes from any page on the site is still allowed to register, so don't tell the script writers that secret. The second block prevents any Chinese IP address from loading the UserPreferences, which prevents them from creating an accounts. Chinese users can browse your site normally, but legitimate Chinese users cannot create accounts either. This is an extremely efficient system. I have seen my server load drop considerably, since the "Forbidden" page returns zero bytes of data. By examining my server log, I see that the spammers have mostly quit trying, since the site is not a payoff for them. -- Gnarlie http://Gnarlodious.com/Gnarlodious From chatupysgjsu at ugra.org Mon Nov 26 13:04:21 2007 From: chatupysgjsu at ugra.org (cary chatupy) Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2007 15:04:21 -0300 Subject: [Moin-user] eppertll Message-ID: <000601c83056$c5478ae0$0747bfc8@geral> bargains galore, you have never seen a watch sale like this before http://tcinglar.com/ From theology at gmail.com Mon Nov 26 14:05:30 2007 From: theology at gmail.com (Zeth Green) Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2007 19:05:30 +0000 Subject: [Moin-user] How do I bulk delete users? Hi

its easier if you add an own Group at this place e.g.
    UserGroup:read,write etc

Then you have to add a page UserGroup to your wiki and fill in a bullet
list of all users you want gain access.

Its quite easy to manage. If you like you can add an acl rule on that
page too to give everyone already on that page the right to add someone
    else.

If you want users added by email activation, users needs to be added to
this page too. You may be interested in

The decrepit 'bot sends a malformed search URL,
To illustrate, go to this page:

Scroll down to te bottom where it says:

    Search Keyphrases (Top 10)

Notice that the most searched-for word is "WINFLA". There is really no
such word on my site. The msnbot sends a URL like this:

which the Wiki site interprets as a referrer URL.

It's likely the error won't last long, since many webmasters will be
    complaining.

The traceback simply states that the bot closes the connection early after seeing the
500 status, w/o reading the body. It's no real error.

I created a page using Project template. The acl below was automatically
embedded. Don't really know what this means or where it came from but it
kept user from reading page. I have not implemented any groups unless
these are implemented by default. If so I have no idea what to do with
    them or where they are.

    #acl Project/AdminGroup:admin,read,write,delete,revert
    Project/ReadWriteGroup:read,write,delete Project/ReadGroup:read

THis is in wikiconfig.py and is what I want put in as default.

        acl_rights_before = u"mjmatthews:read,write,delete,revert,admin"
        acl_rights_default = u"All:read,write,delete,revert"

I am on the verge of getting user participation for this wiki and I do
not want to confuse everyone (including myself) with covert acl
embedding. I have read ACL Help and am not entirely clear on
implementation. Can someone explain what happened?

    thanks in advance

    Dear all,
I'm just about to start wiki with manuals concerning two pieces of
equipment. As the older one had a detector called Apex1 and the new
Apex2 it was 'obviouse' to name all to pages the same way (with eventual
sub-pages Apex1/what_ever). I found out that this doesn't work properly.
I couldn't for example load in acl rules if the group was called Apex1Group.
Now I found that 'Apex1/HelpOnSlots' generates only the link to
HelpOnSlots -- is seems that a name with a number on the end is not
recognized as 'proper' CamelCase or/and wiki-name (as work-around I use
    [wiki:Apex1/HelpOnSlots HelpOnSlots]).
I don't know if this is a bug or I make something wrong -- if the second
    please let me know.

    regards kris

See page_group_regex, you need to change that in your wiki config.

The default might be [a-z]Group which is not good enough for you
    application.

Apex1 is not CamelCase at all. CamelCase requires a uppercase letter
followed by lowercase letter(s) pattern repeated at least 2 times.

where BlaBlaGroup should be read from acl-line

The 1.6.0 release is looking really good. Thank you guys for all your hard work.

For my small part, I tested mod_python (There is a comment in /docs/Changes that says it needed testing). The only change required was to the PythonPath statement in httpd.conf. I updated Moin Master about a week ago.

The change to the moin cookie format motivated me to switch from my homegrown method of authentication to external_cookie. I added some documentation to
       http://moinmaster.wikiwikiweb.de/HelpOnAuthentication/ExternalCookie
because I can't update the system pages in moinmo.in. My code and comments probably need more discussion, so it would be helpful for anyone else using external_cookie for authentication to take a look at the above page and fix whatever needs fixing.

Funny, I had the same question for Thomas just a couple days ago. Turns out
that the new "master" is now at:
    http://master.moinmo.in
...and everything else is basically the same. As a matter of fact, if you
were an editor on the old master, the same page carries over to the new
    master (so just log in).

Looking forward to playing with 1.6beta (haven't had time yet)...

Somehow I managed to change my username from KaiJaeger to
KaiJaegerTest although my intention was to create a new user
    KaiJaegerTest and nothing else.

Now I very much would like to go back to my original name, but when I
try this MoinMoin tells me that there is already such a user. It seems
that I managed to confuse not only me but also MoinMoin.

Is there any way to go back to my original name?

There is no direct way, but you can use Include to include a complete
    other page.

Modify the CSS (not recommended, though, a user should know when a
    reference leaves the local site).

This is maybe a bug / limitation.

If you don't get it done on the user interface, I would like to have a
bug report about this (should not happen), including all details filled out.

If you have access to the file system of the wiki server, you could just
look into data/user/... and even edit the stuff you see there with a
    text editor.

Also maybe delete the file user2id in the data/cache/... directory.

Sounds like you need to log out and then log in again. you try to create a new
account with your old name, instead of logging in.

When I started to use MoinMoin I thought that alomost everybody would
click on the logo of a particular website to get back to the home
page. And because my Wiki addresses IT professionals, I was very sure
that I can remove that tab.

Today I learned that I was wrong. A really clever guy failed to find
the intended way back to the home page. Well, usability is an
    interesting area...

So I brought the FronPage tab back into my interface. Now I am unhappy
with the fact that the "Frontpage" tab disappears as soon as I reach
the homepage. That leads to some confusion. For example, I am used to
click on "RecentPages" quite often, and I know that this is the second
tab now, so my right hand is clicking on the second tab even without
thinking. But it is _not_ the second tab on the homepage.

It would be much better if the tab is still there but inactive. Is
there a way to achieve this?

On 1.6.0 beta 2, I just noticed that when I turn on the page trail, it shows only the last page. Per http://moinmo.in/MoinDev/Storage,
the page trail is not stored into user_dir, but into the user's session data on Moin 1.6.

Where is the session data stored? I am running mod_python (perhaps I spoke too soon about mod_python working OK).

Is this for an anon user or for a logged in user? Do you see your name
at the top border of modern theme?

    data/cache/session* iirc.

What auth method do you use?
