Strange. But maybe there is something wrong. A user "test" should not get accepted by a moin with ACLs switched on. IIRC, it requires you to enter a CamelCase WikiName as username (and also password and email). So maybe try with "TestUser" (both in httpd.users and MoinMoin account data). Yes, when I have a TestUser in "httpd.users" MoinMoin remembers the login of "TestUser". Does MoinMoin really interact with the Apache users? Do they have to be the same? Is there a way to switch it of (in the config)? I'd like to have the Users authenticate with their Unix-login-Name (it is used for some other non-public parts on the server) and have a different CamelCase Name in the Wiki. I would like to use MoinMoin to manage a BibTeX database (bibliographic database). With the above purpose in mind, I have created a page with the bibliographic entries. Then, to get some entries obeying some criteria and sorted by author, I have created another page and tried to use the macro SearchInPagesAndSort to accomplish the task, but the macro doesn't seem to work. Another possibility, would be to use a macro to search some pattern inside the pages and includes the page or some lines, but this macro doesn't exist. The search macros only include links, and the include macros only search pages, not content. Can anyone help me? Just enabled htpasswd passwords in Apache for your site or for the wiki cgi url. The htpasswd usernames should be the same as in the wiki. Moin will then just believe apache, when it says that user has authenticated already and not double-check. I think we already thought about that, but no code yet. The right way to do that is to extend userform.py and user.py to have an extra http auth username field. Further, the userdict.pickle stuff then needs to be extended to find the correct WikiName in a fast way (that pickle "cache" is used for finding correct wiki userid without having to load and parse all account files). We would be happy to accept a patch for that ;) That would make it happen sooner, maybe even for 1.2 (== soon). Using that account data, a quite easy script could even generate a htpasswd user/password file fragment for apache. That is not in 1.1 - we are running a recent development snapshot there. We currently use tla/arch for development, see http://arch.thinkmo.de. But as we are currently doing widespread cleanups and html changes, it is not advisable to just get an arbitrary version from there for running a productive site - quite some i18n is currently broken and even code might be broken sometimes. This is bleeding edge code! Usage is recommended only for doing development and testing. So maybe better wait for 1.2 (Q1/2004) - the arbitrary diffs and lots of other stuff will be included then. What about things like poetry, where you want definite line breaks, but you want a unitary block of text, not a list nor a set of paragraphs? I suppose a {{{ }}} block would do just fine, if the poets don't mind their work looking like a typescript. I suppose in such a case (unless there's a nice non-[[BR]] way to do it that I don't know) it would make sense to have a ReadmeFirst page in the hypothetical poetry wiki, telling poets with no web savvy to use [[BR]] for their verses. We are running moinmoin 1.1 on python 2.2.1. Our problem is, that everything works fine, but if I click the "edit" link of a page, the browser delays up to 10sec until it displays the editpage, where i could modify the pages contents. If i click preview then, its the same. Everything else works fine. When I test the wiki locally (on the server using lynx), everything works fine. The problem occured only on a browser (internet explorer/mozilla) from another computer. Perhaps i should mention, that we use an intranet, where our browsers are configured to use a proxy for internetaccess. But of course I setted our wiki server on the use-no-proxy-for list. robert From vern at txis.com Fri Dec 19 16:41:01 2003 From: vern at txis.com (Vernon Graner) Date: Fri Dec 19 16:41:01 2003 Subject: [Moin-user] (no subject) Message-ID: <64347.208.190.190.38.1071880815.squirrel@armadillo.txis.com> -- Vern Graner CNE/CNA/SSE | "If the network is down, then you're Senior Systems Engineer | obviously incompetent so why are we Texas Information Services | paying you? Try: import urllib import socket in the interpreter to verify this. If the import works it is possible that some environment variables are not set properly in the CGI environment of the webserver, but this is not very likely. Consider updating to Python 2.2.2 or even better 2.3.2 and try compiling it on that maschine. Everthing seems to work except for the UserSettings. If I log in, my user data ist displayed correctly. But if I change to any other Page (FrontPage, Serach, ...) the login data seems to disappear. Instead of my user name the Link for UserSettings is displayed at the menue bar. To rule out conflicts with old data I deleted the contents of the users directory and created a new "account". Still i have got the same problems. This seems to be independent from the browser: ie and opera show the same. To rule out conflicts with different versions of the python libs I deleted the directory /lib/python/site-packages/MoinMoin (and reinstalled moinmoin). Still the same problems. Can anybody give me a hint, what might be the problem? Basically, I followed the directions for "Windows Installation using Apache", until they related the changes to be made to Apache's "httpd.conf" file. Instead, I made several additions to Xitami's "defaults.cfg" file. If this file does not exist, you should create it in the same directory as file "xitami.cfg", probably in directory "C:\Xitami". Entries in "defaults.cfg" will override those in "xitami.cfg". I added these items to "defaults.cfg", for a wiki named "bobwiki": [Alias] /wiki = "C:/Python23/share/moin/htdocs" /wikidata = "C:/Moin/wikidata" [Cgi-alias] /bobwiki = "C:/Moin/bobwiki/moin.cgi" Alternately, these changes could be made through Xitami's web-based administration pages, as detailed in a message on this list from Dierk H?ppner, dated 2002-09-26 07:48. I modified slightly the PageEditor.py file (line 561) to get a better idea of what is going wrong. It says the file already exists. And the file that already exists is the 'data\\backup\\SeanMoore_2fMoinEditorBackup.1072190474'. The time stamp used here is the the time stamp of the data\\backup\\SeanMoore_2fEditorBackup file. When I watch the backup folder, these files keep accumulating, and the text\*MoinEditorBackup doesn't get removed. As long as I delete the latest backup file, it the RenameAction works, but if I don't I get the error. It looks as if the RenameAction is saving a backup of its last edited file and the next time it is run, it tries to back that file up again. (in a create new page, it backs up the previous file, but doesn't backup the new page edit) Could be way off here - any help appreciated. If you use apache authentication (htpasswd), then apache will override moin authentication - this is a problem if you have different usernames on apache and on moinmoin. I don't know of an existing solution, but this could be done pretty easily with a modification of the Include Macro. In the system I envision, you keep all the news items on a NewsPage. Each news entry is preceded by the date of entry, and is separated from other news entries by a horizontal line. The LatestNews macro works like include, but takes the page name (NewsPage) to extract from, and a parameter indicating how far back to go (# of entries, of time period). It would parse the entries, and truncate the file after reading entries within the specified window. Well, there's a design for something. It's a little klunky but it would work, and it's not a huge programming effort. It would, however, rely on consistent entry formatting. I frequently paste plain text into a personal Wiki and then add links instead of cluttering my drive with text files. For simple listings I also prefer hitting return to typing " * ". In those cases the linebreak issue does matter. > Would it be better if a user has an optional flag like an 'auto_line_break' in > moin_config.py? Options than can modify an installation in such a way that identical markup is displayed differently than in other MoinMoin Wikis are probably not a good idea. > I understand that

I'm very much in favor of being able to change treatment of line feeds inside pages. Something like ... or [[set_auto_break]] and [[unset_auto_break]] would be great, especially the latter as it does not require an end tag. > Any idea? Easier to implement might be one of: #pragma auto_break on #FORMAT Wiki_with_br -- Tobias Weber From manfred.cuntz at gmx.de Wed Dec 31 08:17:06 2003 From: manfred.cuntz at gmx.de (Manfred Cuntz) Date: Wed Dec 31 08:17:06 2003 Subject: [Moin-user] Some Questions Message-ID: <200312311715.57069.manfred.cuntz@gmx.de> Hello, once again I have some questions for which I haven't found an answer in the documentation: How can I create an internal link which is displayed in a name which differs from the page name. Example: Page name is (sorry, its german) "WeitwinkelObjektiv" and should be displayed as "WeitwinkelObjektive" with an additional "e" at the end. Or another one: page name is "StreulichtBlende" and should be displayed as "GegenlichtBlende". Of course i can use an external link but I would prefer an internal link. How can I link directly to an anchor of an internal page? Any help is appreciated. But now the next problem: I would like to display a picture on the left side of a page and text on the right side. Not below the picture. Bye Manfred
