[Microbit-Python] MicroPython on micro:bit TODO list

Hi Nicholas,

As will all things on this complex project the outcome is not straightforward. What I'd like to do is meet up with you, Jonny and Damien in Cambridge as soon as is practicable (next week?) and work through the outcome. I would have also liked Joe to be there as well but I know he is on leave next week.

Everybody recognised MicroPython is a brilliant achievement and everybody is supportive of it as a solution. However there are a number of resourcing decisions (both internal and external) that need to be made to make it work and that's what I'd like to work through with you. Of course, anybody else on the team is welcome to come, however we do need to fix a time without too much complexity.

The other thing I'd like to say is that all this work *will* be open sourced. It is a public promise and is an essential part of the Micro:bit project. The runtime will be made public as will a process to add to it. It has never been a question of *if* but *when*. At the moment the runtime is in a state of flux, it is changing daily, and is being worked on by a small number of people with a strong focus on making sure it is fit for purpose and does the things it needs to do for launch. It would not be fair to that team in Lancaster University or practical to open up the runtime before they have completed that work to their own satisfaction; it is a matter of personal pride as much as workflow. However, Joe Finney and Jonny Austin are happy to give access to the runtime so its status can be shared by teams needing the information and who are building projects based on it, which I believe has already been done.

Looking forward to hearing back from you
Howard

Hi Howard,

We would love to know the outcome of this meeting. :-)
