Hi,

The Graphical Forecast Editor team at the Bureau of Meteorology is looking for an experienced Python developer.

Core:

- Advanced software development skills and experience

-          Advanced Python

-          C++

-          TDD

-          Linux

Additional:

-          Numpy / Scipy

-          Qt

-          OpenGL

-          Swig

We have an existing large complex software system that we are working to improve the scalability, performance and suitability to handle future requirements. Work involves gaining a solid understanding of the system in C++ and Python. Refactoring / rewriting existing C++ / Python components in Python. Ability to maintain / modify C++ in support of the refactoring / rewriting. Decoupling the system from old APIs moving them onto new APIs. Extending and improving the new APIs. Maintaining backward compatibility for as long as needed. Performance profiling. Memory profiling.

This is an interesting application used daily in weather forecasting and an exciting role for someone to sink their teeth into serious, complex software development with the opportunity to make significant improvements and contributions.

This is a contract position.

If anyone is interested or would like more information please contact Darius.powell at bom.gov.au<mailto:Darius.powell at bom.gov.au> or Julian.noye at bom.gov.au<mailto:Julian.noye at bom.gov.au>

Kind regards,
