subscription notices were sent by
mailman-bounces at virtualdomain.tld instead of
listname-bounces at virtualdomain.tld.

mailman-bounces at virtualdomain.tld is invalid and
nonexistent, which also leads to such mails being
dropped to "nirvana" if some mailserver rejects mail
from invalid senders.
