"It would be nice if the conversion were implicit, but .NET `byte[]` are mutable while Python `bytes` are immutable. For safety's sake, the conversion needs to be explicit.

I'm fine with those two methods, but I would call the unsafe one GetUnsafeByteArray(), just to make it absolutely clear that it's not safe, and if it breaks, the caller gets to keep the pieces."-----------------
