I started learning Flask with Miguel Grinberg's fabulous blog. He also has a book or two out now, I believe. https://blog.miguelgrinberg.com/post/the-flask-mega-tutorial-part-i-hello-world There was one time I did stumble into a Flask-based ICQ i believe, and was able to dialogue about a question I had and found the people in there quite helpful. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Just to join in to prove the list isn't dead, just occupied, I'll say that I turn to this list as a last resort when Google/StackOverflow can't solve my problem. Most of the major concerns you might run into can be searched on Google, which generally leads you to StackOverflow. Best practices can often be found on the website or on various github repos. The Grinberg book recommended previously in this thread is also a very valuable resource. I highly recommend following it to get your feet wet in Flask. I've been using Flask since around 2010, so I wouldn't tap out and call it done. But realize that this mailing list may not always have the time to drop everything for a general question that can easily be answered by a search. -- Ford On Thu, Mar 5, 2020 at 2:50 PM Scott Woodstock wrote: > This mailing list is where I turn when I am unable to find what I'm > looking for from google. I?ve been running a fairly complex Flask web app for several months using Nginx and UWSGI without a lick of trouble. Previously I?ve used Apache and mod-wsgi, and that was a breeze as well. I would start by creating a server-setup.txt file in your code repo with detailed instructions for setting up your server from scratch. You can copy the contents of your various config files into that file as reference. Then you will have something to share with us. That is what I used, and I followed this: https://flask.palletsprojects.com/en/1.1.x/deploying/mod_wsgi/ I did run through and touch every piece of the code in the live app, Without causing the 500 error, so it is not that something is being intermittently hit causing the 500. My question really is: Where all should I look for errors? I'm not seeing the 500 in any of these: /var/log/syslog /var/log/messages /var/log/daemon.log /var/www/myApp/logs/error.log /var/www/MyApp/logs/access.log /var/log/apache2/error.log /var/log/apache2/access.log -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I generally agree, thinking it was an Apache limit somehow. I'm running at a consistent 1GB used out of 4GB RAM and 17% disk space used, out of 50GB in a KVM VPS. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Many of us on here are using Flask for production code, so the problem likely lies with the implementation, not the framework. How is your apache configured? Are you letting mod_wsgi directly handle your application or are you proxying to something like uwsgi or gunicorn? What configs are you using for your Flask app? It could be anything from IO contention to runtime errors (zero division? parsing errors?) to mod_wsgi failing out due to configuration problems (too few threads to handle request load, If possible, try testing the application running under something like uwsgi directly. That will eliminate Apache from the problem. If it still throws 500's, then you know the problem is within the app and not coming from the Apache/app interface. If the issue stems from Apache, then it's likely a configuration issue. If you're using mod_wsgi, this page on debugging might help ( https://modwsgi.readthedocs.io/en/develop/user-guides/debugging-techniques.html). Logs are essential to figuring out where the issue arises from. If the issue is isolated to your app, I suggest you start with enhancing your logging at every level. Add debug level logging on any code path along the problematic route (i.e. anything that touches the page or pages that are throwing the 500). If this app isn't public facing, try enabling the built-in debugger via the debug flag ( https://flask.palletsprojects.com/en/1.1.x/quickstart/#debug-mode). Try to identify patterns of usage. It could be that your traffic load is too much for a particular view, especially if it's doing something heavy. Or perhaps you're being bitten by a noisy-neighbor problem if you're hosting multiple sites/applications on the same host. If a thread is being killed for using too much memory, you could be seeing a periodic crash/reboot throwing 500's. Hope this helps!
