I have verified that the problem is with FASTCALL and PTRFASTCALL,
#defining them away inside #if defined(__GNU_C__) in lib/internal.h 
makes the problem go away.  So what's needed is to have a place in 
internal.h to insert the appropriate incantations for OS X... -Tim
