Summary: Makefile breaks on HP-UX 10.20 make

Details: The built-in make on HP-UX 10.20 has some problem with the Makefile which leads it to believe that it needs to run autoconf.  Gnu make works just fine, so this isn't a huge problem.  But, it would be great if you could mention this in the build instructions.
