Europython is a comunity conference runned volunteers. We have started working to make the Europython 2011 an amazing conference but we need help from well motivated pythonistas from the community to make it real. The main activities for volunteers will be needed in june, when running the conference but still we also need some help now in order to prepare and develop better services to deploy before and during the conference. Right now we need volunteers to help us with the following activities: - *mobile apps development:* If you are a developer help help us creating nice applications for the conference! - *site reviewers:* we need english native speaking helpers to review the website content - *sponsorships headhunters:* if you know a potential sponsor let us know! Europython happens thanks to sponsors! More sponsors means a better conference. but when we'll get closer to the conference we'll also need help with other activities like: - session chairs - bags and gadgets packaging - audio/video recordings - general help - ... Helping Europython to be a great conference is a big help for the python community and gives you chance to meet many folks inside it. The community will recognise and appreciate your help! Please contact us on chat at the official conference website or the europython and europython-improve mailing lists Stay tuned on this blog, on the official twitter account and subscribe to the feeds! - Fabio Pliger ( on behalf of the organizers ) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... What I can offer is help with setting up / configuring / hosting a MoinMoin-based conference (and/or organizers) wiki, if needed. The 2009 and 2010 wikis ran on John Pinner's server, but I didn't see a 2011 wiki there. If you have your own server, we could also host it there or on a machine from me, if you prefer. > _______________________________________________ > EuroPython 2010 - Birmingham, 17-24 July 2010 - http://www.europython2010.eu > EuroPython mailing list > EuroPython at python.org > http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/europython I guess that footer needs updating. That is the one we should use. The plain europython list is for the conference delegates, many of who seem to have a very low tolerance to email. Already today, with a little flurry on the list, three people have unsubscribed. Many unsubscribed last year in the run-up to EP2010, heaven knows how they thought they could keep in touch with what was happening! In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <1296136976.5545.63.camel@x300> > * mobile apps development: If you are a developer help help us > creating nice applications for the conference! Just a quick note from me from a recent experience I had at 27c3 (27th Chaos Communication Congress) in Berlin: While quite a lot people nowadays have nice and expensive smartphones, please consider that there are also quite a lot who don't. What I found out one day before leaving to the congress was that there are just some "apps" for misc. mobile platform (not useful at all for me) and some webapps (one with "offline mode"), that required of course some kind of browser to see and were in no reasonable way printable. Unfortunately, this year noone did a "one page / few pages" conference programme PDF that is just printable to 1 or 2 sheets of paper, which was really bad for me, because I always had to use my laptop just to find out what the next talk is and where it is and whether I wanted to attend it. Needless to say that battery runtime is limited and WLAN doesn't always work if there are lots of geeks at one place. So, please consider the many features of a printout on a dead tree: * ultra-thin, ultra-mobile: just 0.5mm thin, just a few grams of weight, fits into any pocket * endless battery runtime, never runs out of power * boots and shuts down in less than a second * crash proof operating system * easy notetaking app to mark talks you want to attend ("pencil") or even make unrelated notes * high-contrast 14" 1200 dpi non-glare, foldable, ultra-flexible, unbreakable display, readable in a wide range of lighting conditions * full size front and rear display * ultra-low TCO * fully recyclable * runs with or without clouds, does not depend on working wireless network or UMTS :-) If you choose to use colour when creating such a PDF, please keep in mind that some people use a non-colour laser printer still, so choose colours which give a readable bw printout (if that's not easy, just don't use colours). Putting some such programs at floor walls in the conference building (and maybe even keeping them updated in case of programme changes) would also help quite a lot. I personally don't see much value in a *mailing-list* for delegates. In PyCon Italy, we have a mailing-list for organizers and a newsletter (= read-only mailing-list, if you prefer) for delegates/fans/followers, with a very low and clean traffic. By your description above, I propose that we simply turn europython@ into a newsletter so that non-moderators can't post (and we can then link it with the "subscribe to newsletter" form in the website). -- Giovanni Bajo :: rasky at develer.com Develer S.r.l. :: http://www.develer.com My Blog: http://giovanni.bajo.it Last post: Compile-time Function Execution in D From fabio.pliger at s3srl.com Thu Jan 27 21:36:12 2011 From: fabio.pliger at s3srl.com (Fabio Pliger) Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2011 21:36:12 +0100 Subject: [EuroPython] [Europython-improve] can we discuss on ONE mailing list, please? I wouldn't change the way europython@ is set.. Personally i like to leave europython@ as a place where people can contact organizers. I remember that attendees used it to ask questions about common issues like visas info, refunds, students help, etc... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
