It seems I missed part of the discussion due to DNS toubles, but 24-26 june would be fine with me. Paris and Amsterdam were never candidates, though there was a recent Zope meeting in Paris and there would've been one at Linux Expo early next year in Amsterdam (but Linux Expo doesn't happen, so there won't be). That might've caused the confusion. Anyway, Charleroi (not too far from Brussels and with good connections from everywhere) is the main candidate right now. Ask Denis Frere, who is impressively and tirelessly doing the more important part of the spacetime equation; the space part. :) Regards, Martijn From faassen@vet.uu.nl Sat Dec 1 11:58:50 2001 From: faassen@vet.uu.nl (Martijn Faassen) Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 12:58:50 +0100 Subject: [EuroPython] 26-28 june it is Message-ID: <20011201125850.B1393@vet.uu.nl> Hi there, Well, that seems clear. June it is! wed 26 - fri 28 june 2002, most likely in Charleroi, Belgium, will be the time and location of our conference. Note that voting on the location is probably less useful than voting on the time; since we don't have any euros yet in our conference coffers (though we do have at least one sponsor, Zope Corporation), it's far more dependent on connections we have locally and Denis seems to have the advantage so far. Anyway, it's up to Denis now to check this time with the contacts he has. If it all checks out all right, we will start a first round of announcements and call for volunteers in wider channels. I don't understand this. Lot's of people are on vacation then, so I don't know why it has to be in the summer itself.... The best timeperiod would be April, May. But this is too soon or it should be hold in 2003 (which is too late) Now, I'm more thinking on September. But that's of course my idea... I still don't see the point why it *has* always to be in the summer... > * Try to avoid overlap with other events; LinuxTag is 6-9 june, > LSM is (tue 9 - thurs 11 july, any others? Of course. I wrote to "my contacts" this night again. But answers might take some time. Don't forget they are administrative people, not old hackers as you are. I'm already very glad they can read their mails now, in a few months they'll be able to write too ;-) December 19th might be another stepstone : i'll meet our mayor on that day. Because Guido will visit the Netherlands in the summer. :) That's not the only reason; I think some ambition in aiming at this summer is good. It will put some pressure on it, but it isn't ridiculously soon either. If we announce it this month, people can plan their vacation around it. Besides, we seem to have accepted 'end of june', which isn't in most people's vacations yet, I think.
