Synpromics (http://www.synpromics.com/), the leading provider of synthetic promoters for precisely controlling gene expression, are looking to hire a full-stack developer on a short-term contract, with a start-date as soon as possible. The project will involve the design and implementation of a Django-based database driven web application to allow the Science team to upload and query for critical experimental data from an internal relational database. The Science team will upload the data (both structured and semi-structured) using an intuitive web front-end, and retrieve and potentially visualize data using the same web application. The development of this tool will involve: design of the database tables, implementation of a model-view-controller (MVC) web architecture to connect the database to a web front-end, and a visualization element to present the quantitative data to the Scientists in an appropriate graphical form. This is an important project within Synpromics and will expose the developer to modern full-stack development tools and techniques, with the opportunity of delivering an application that will be heavily used by the company. The project will follow the Scrum agile software development methodology.

The offered rate is highly competitive and dependent on experience. Interested candidates are encouraged to send any informal queries and their most recent CV tosean.moran at synpromics.com. The start date is as soon as possible, with the job being based in our Edinburgh Bioquarter office (situated near the Royal Infirmary, about a 15 minute bus ride from the Informatics Forum, Google Map link:https://goo.gl/maps/heN5hUUfzKo).

Highly skilled in Python
Web development (Javascript/html/CSS/Django/)

Bash scripting

Nice to have (but not crucial):

Web-based visualization (D3.js)
