I want to share with you a small script that displays translation status
for language switcher for Transifex-based translations. The script is using
Transifex API [1] and requires Transifex API token.

It generates README.md file with status. Currently, for Polish translation
it is 5.17%.

FWIW, I've set up a public service[1] 1 month ago, which proxies the
Transifex projects API[2](this API is different from what your used,
it calculates all resource by Transifex) with my own API key.

It's used to show dynamic badge on github repository for zh_CN translation[3].

Nice work folks, thanks for sharing! I created a blog post over Jupyter
with stats and some charts as well. It was written in Portuguese but the

The translations are all under CC0.

Yes, you can translate the Python Software Foundation License, but I don't think it's usefull, better start with the tutorial. I mean there's more tutorial readers than license reader, true?

Learning Python docs I discovered that there is no Russian translation in
free access.
I tried to find language group or project, related to translation Python
docs on Russian, but found only some separated sites with translated parts
of docs left unfinished. It looks like they worked alone...

I'm not experienced developer and this is my first step to working with
open source projects.
I will be glad to contribute to the project and make Python docs more
available for those who don't know English well yet. I want to try to
attract to project people from educational site where I learn and a couple
other community after I understand how does it work.

I already read PEP 545 and join Transifex project.
Could you, Julien, create a RU repo on github? I think this repo is
important place to let other people know that russian language group is
exists.

Also, I have some questions:
1) Not sure what is the mentioned "bugs.html" - pls give me a direct link?
2) I would like to clarify PEP 545 rule about "100% of tutorial". Is it
exactly must be a tutorial, no other part (e.g. "Language Reference")? I
only ask because I already have some parts of Language Reference
translated. Maybe it will be considered as interchangeable?

on your own github account, open a repo. you then have to translate the

Glad to have some news from the russian translation :)

The tutorial section is the resource starting with tutorial-- in transifex. it's not interchangable with language reference because translation is typically read by newcomers, which typically read the tutorial, no the language reference.

If you want to start syncing between transifex and github you can check how other translations did (the french one do not really use transifex so we're not syncing automatically, I can't really help here). Maybe Tomo Cocoa (in copy of this email) could help / document their (travis ?) cron.

Syncing to a python/python-docs-ru will only be usefull to start building the doc on docs.python.org, it can be done before reaching 100% of the tutorial though, just to have a visual preview of the build (which canbe done locally too).

So I think the timeline can go like this:
- Continue on transifex up to a big part of the tutorial being done
- Ask me to setup python/python-docs-ru
- Setup transifex sync on the repo
- We start building the doc on docs.python.org
- Reach the requirements from PEP 545 and when you feel ready we add Russian to the language picker.

A few things to mention:
- Transifex is not mandatory, only github as a meet-point, so if you prefer you can sync git with another tool of your choice, of simply use git (france, italy, and spanish IIRC are only using github)
- Do not translate alone, gather a community around it. Because it's a huge project (takes like 18 years alone translating 2 hours a day), so spreading the word around the russian community is a faster way to reach 100% translated than trying to translate yourself. In Paris we're doing a monthly workshop to gather more and more people around the translation.

A few years ago I found http://python-lab.ru/documentation/index.html, you may try to contact them to help in the translation project if not already done.

I made my own repo, just for adding information about project to 
possible newcomers and organized chat in Telegram. Now there are three 
of us (e-mails to previous translators helped).

It is not necessary yet, we all now working on Transifex, maybe later.

can we move https://github.com/alessandrocucci/python-docs-it to pycon? I
just found an active contributor and I think more will come in the next few
days.
I'm not done with tutorials yet, so for now please don't add the italian
language to the menu.

Yes (to /python/ no pycon), IIRC the right way is for you to initiate the transfer to the python organisation, we'll receive a notification to accept the transfer. It's in the setting page, in the danger zone.
