Hi Luciano, Marco and Rodrigo,

Long time no see, how the translation in pt-br is going? I just been told that https://github.com/python/python-docs-pt-br/ is empty, but last time I checked you had translated a lot on transifex. If the project is still active, what about merging to github and pushing towards docs.python.org/pt-br/? I'll have some free time if you need any help.

I haven't contributed to the translation at all since I updated
Rodrigo's translation of the tutorial to Python 2.7 many years ago.

I don't know of anyone else is working on it.

PS. FWIW, I never thought transifex was the right tool for translating
the docs. Transifex is designed to translate UI messages, not
paragraphs of text and code. But maybe I am just old ;-)

I agree with you, and in fact we're almost not using Transifex for the french translation, everyone's doing github pull requests. We're just pulling from transifex from time to time so if one really don't want to learn git, he can contribute via a "web interface".

But I think Japan translation is using Transifex a lot, so it looks like it works. BTW any language is free to translate as they want, git is only mandatory as a "single point of exchange" between humans and docs.python.org's build script.

If you have any other tool in mind that looks more suited for long paragraphs, please tell, we may also advise to use it. (I'm probably too old too as I'm stuck using po-mode in emacs... while being sure it's the right solution).

Hi Julien,

Like Luciano pointed out, the bulk of the translation work I did in 2001
(Oh my God!), by performing a full-translation of Guido's tutorial 2.4.
I think the best approach would be to contact the current president of
Brazilian's Python Association (Cc'ed) M?rio S?rgio.
He might be able to either direct you to people currently doing this work,
or maybe even better... articulate new volunteers to carry on.

I am reading the PEP-545[1] and in this PEP there are reference to Spanish
doc [2] but this link is broken. Also, I search on the Python's Github and
does not exist a repo to python-docs-es.

Do exist Spanish translation? If not I am available to start the
translation.

Yes, at https://github.com/PyAr/tutorial but they are not using po files (read: not PEP545 compliant).

Tam?s (in this ML, coordinator of python-docs-hu) created a tool to extract translated paragraphs from rst files: https://github.com/gbtami/rst2po, so with the consent [1] of PyAr you could bootstrap a PEP545-compilant repository from it.

[1] Their current work is currently not under a license, (so it fails under Berne Convention by default, IANAL but it looks bad in terms of reusing their work). For you to reuse it in a PEP545-compliant projet it would require they license it as CCO.

Hi,

Recently the zh-tw translations ran into a smart-quotes problem that I
believe experienced by the Japanese team as well [1].  We're experiencing a
similar problem [2], but here in our generated html the quotes not only are
transformed into Chinese quotes automatically, but are also mismatching [3]
where they should be pairs of ? and ?.

I also found out that the problem was fixed in GH-4006 [4] for Japanese
translations, I suggest that we should have the same fix for zh-tw, perhaps
zh-cn team would also want to do the same thing.
